Title: Chicago Blackhawks Off-Season Moves
Post by: TallTitan34 on July 01, 2011, 06:38:34 PM
It looks like the higher salary cap, in addition to dropping Soupy's 7 million contract, gave the Hawks a little wiggle room this offseason.

Today the Hawks signed five free agents.  Unfortunately, Dan Carcillo was one of them.  Even after the moves the Hawks should still have enough money to resign Sharp and acquire a player midseason if need be.

This finally gave me a chance to examine the whole "you hate him, but would love him if he was on your team" phenomenon.  But thus far, I'm just annoyed cause Carcillo is such a douche.  I don't need people to hate the Hawks like some hated the Flyers because of him and Pronger.

Bringing back RFAs Campoli, Frolik, and Stalberg has to be high on the priority list.

Very high and Bowman said he is confident he will sign all 3.

Brunette's price tag was the highest at $2 million, followed by O'Donnell ($850,000), Carcillo ($775,000), Mayers ($550,000) and McLean ($525,000 if he makes the NHL).

Bowman said he will now focus on signing the Hawks' restricted free agents: Michael Frolik, Chris Campoli and Viktor Stalberg.

"I'm confident we're going to get them signed," Bowman said

The Hawks locked up Stalberg yesterday for two years.

Bowman said there is no urgency to sign restricted free agents Chris Campoli and Michael Frolik.

"I spoke to the agents of both (Tuesday)," Bowman said. "I'm still optimistic we'll get something done. They have their (salary) number, we have our number. We're trying to make it work and we're not quite there yet."

Has there been anything on Sharp yet?  What is his situation?

11-12 is the last year of Sharp's contract.  He's an unrestricted free agent after that.  Making $3.9M this coming season.

The Blackhawks have re-signed Michael Frolik to a three-year deal, and signed Sami Lepisto to a one-year contract.

And have no intention of pursuing resigning Campoli.

The Hawks walked away from an arbitrator’s salary ruling for Campoli and he is now a restricted free agent.  He was awarded $2.5 million for next year.

They did the same thing with Niemi last year.

Former Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Antti Niemi has decided to accept a one-year, $2 million deal with the San Jose Sharks, according to a league source.

After helping lead the Blackhawks to their first Stanley Cup title in 49 years, Niemi and Chicago went to salary arbitration. The Blackhawks submitted an offer of $1.5 million, but the arbitrator awarded Niemi $2.75 million.

That would be allot to pay for someone fighting with OD for the last spot on the 3rd line D.  Figuring Leddy and Montador are fighting to end up on the 2nd line with Niklolas.  FRolik got the same money and he is a Top 6 Forward and he is much younger, and played well in the playoffs.  I wonder Where Stalberg, Kruger, Ben Smith, Olesz fit in.  without regard to C or F, the Top 8 is pretty set, Teows, Hossa, sharp, kane, Bickell, Frolik, Bolland, Brunette.  Carcillo and Mclean will fill in if those 4 cannot fill out the 3rd and 4th line.

There's going to be a lot of fighting for ice time past the top 2 lines/pairings, which can't be a bad thing.

At a pretty reasonable price, considering his versatility.

He said last night that he wanted to stay in Chicago and told his agent to get it done.  He was extremely happy to have the deal done before the year started.  He might have taken a discount based on his desire to stay.
