The Chicago Bulls introduce Jimmy Butler. Watch the news conference streaming live now at http://Bulls.com/.
If you can't watch live we will have the full news conference posted on Bulls.com this afternoon.
excellent. they were surprised he was still available at 30.
every team can't believe the player they drafted fell to them. or so they tell the fans...
Jimmy Butler was in the Houston airport when the text message landed on his phone.
"Congratulations. Welcome. Maybe come by tonight and chill out for a bit and get to know each other."
The sender was none other than Derrick Rose, the reigning most valuable player in the NBA. So Butler landed and hung at Rose's house Sunday night.
Butler, the Chicago Bulls' first-round pick, revealed this anecdote at his introductory news conference at the Berto Center on Monday. Butler played one season of junior college basketball at Tyler (Texas) Junior College with Randall Hampton, Rose's best friend and former teammate at Simeon High School.
"Randall was there, too," Butler said. "I talk to Randall ever since I left junior college and went to Marquette. He's been one of my best friends throughout this process and he's always and forever one of my teammates and like a brother to me.
"We went to Derrick's house and watched the BET awards and just talked about basketball, my life. Me and Randall were joking about our junior college days. It's crazy that I used to watch Derrick on TV and now I'm a teammate. I try not to let that show too much. He's a good dude. He's just like me for the most part. He just wants to win."
To be included (hopefully at higher res) in future recruiting materials:

Buzz looks like he has slimmed down in that picture. Anyone know if it's true?

Buzz puts it on every season and takes it off every April/May.
Did his Mom pick #21?
There's a much better photo (facing the camera) on the Bulls website.

Did his Mom pick #21?
In an interview he mentioned picking 21 since he's 21 years old and also a bit to do with Fulce being 21. Said he couldn't have gotten to the NBA without Joe.
Jimmy was #13 of the NBA eligible All-BE crop. Honorable Mention was it for Jimmy, passed over by the eastern names. Three BE players were drafted, all in the 1st round. Two of these were all BE 1st team. Ten BE NBA eligible players were ahead of JMFB but were passed over in the entire draft. But, JMFB prevailed and set the BE and MU right.
The ACC had five 1st rounders and seven total drafted. B12 (6 & 7), SEC (2 & 8), PAC 10 (3 & 6), B10 (1 & 4), Mid Major (4 & 11), International (6 & 14) all beat the BE (3 & 3 total). How underrated was JMFB at MU and in the BE? Great story.

That was an interesting read. Glad we got rid of Buzz and Butler, since they were in over their heads.
This demonstrates the overreaction many fans tend to have after a loss.

That was fun. My favorite quote: "
P.S.- Maymon will be twice the player Wilson will be. One is a competitor, one is a headcase."
Pretty sure I don't agree with the first sentence...at least I hope it's wrong. Pretty sure I agree with the second sentence...but maybe not what the original poster had in mind.

Ha... I'll own that. From what I had seen from each in HS to that point, I honestly believed it. Funny how things can change.
But, turns out my defense of that team was spot on. They didn't lose another game from that point until USF in February.

The reason that thread was a lot of fun that it just reminds us that we tend to overreact and a lot of times we don't really know what the hell we're talking about. I absolutely include myself in this, by the way.
There was a group of people that were just killing the team and JFB, and there was a group of people (including you) defending the team and JFB. In hindsight, we definitely know who got the better of that.
When I read the thread today I was just glad that I hadn't posted. It's been a long time and I don't remember which camp I would have been in. Depending on the night, it could have gone either way.

How about these doozies from THEGYMBAR...
"I thought at the time and still think Butler was wasted scholly."
"We need seven Maymon's to compete in BE."
No wonder he hasn't posted on here in 2 years! ;D
BTW, I look forward to re-reading some of the Vander threads when he's a 1st Round pick in a couple years.
I was worried at first when I saw that I started that thread...but man, that rocky_warrior is always on his toes ;)

That was a great play. I think butler has potential, but he's not playing as well as we need him to play - yet. I also think by his Senior year (perhaps even Junior), he'll be one of our better players.
(please don't go look up all the times I've been wrong)
