JFB with the #30 Pick (last in the First Round) to Chicago!
Grats JFB on your guaranteed contract!
-
First round money baby! Way to go Jimmy F. Butler!
-
Congrats to Jimmy!
(On a personal note, that made my draft night!)
-
Just like Lazar, last pick of rd 1. Congrats Jimmy!
-
Playing in the Central Division, more trips to Milwaukee!! Great to see. Congrats JB!
-
Just like Lazar, last pick of rd 1. Congrats Jimmy!
Next year at 30--Crowder or DJO will be picked with the "annual marquette pick".
Novak was 32nd, Diener 38th...relatively same area
-
First round money baby! Way to go Jimmy F. Butler!
The "F" stands for "First Round", for tonight at least.
-
Sweet!!
-
Jimmy's got some new moves! Way to go Jimmy!
-
Picked over Kyle Singler and others. This time last year who would have thought.
Congrats to JFB, great story and two consecutive years MU has a first round pick. Awesome.
-
Awesome. Just moved to Chicago. I am now a Bulls fan. Gotta get me a jersey!
-
Yes!!! Shoe eating time!
-
Great story, great story for any recruit to learn about JB in Chicago, this will be a great benefit to MU!
-
Jimmy has been the heart and soul for MU and everyone has to be so happy about this. Sterns get boos and Jimmy gets cheers.
-
CONGRATS JIMMY!!! frickin stoked
-
Sam Smith: 30. Bulls. Jimmy Butler, Marquette. A tough guy, whiich is the kind of guys known for coming from Marquette. He's got a classic story like the Blind Side movie in which he was homeless and raised by another family. Hard worker, a bit undersized who is a front court swingman and solid citizen guy. Also a guy who'll be a good teammate and good for team chemistry, which is vital for the Bulls
-
Got to appreciate the love the crew gave JFB (college basketball's version of the Blind Side) as well as how good it made Marquette look to all those bballers out there struggling in their personal lives and looking at schools...if you come to Marquette and play for Buzz, this could some day be you.
Congrats Jimmy!
-
Way to go JB! I think we own that spot now.
-
Great pick for the Bulls (coming from a Bulls fan)! He's got a really good shot at early PT... Bogans is gone and there isn't a clear starter at the two other than maybe Ronnie Brewer. Let's go Jimmy... get your ass down to Chicago and working out with DRose... grind it out!
-
Just like Lazar, last pick of rd 1. Congrats Jimmy!
That makes it 2 first rounders in a row for MU!!
-
and 3rd in the last 10 years
-
Awesome. Just moved to Chicago. I am now a Bulls fan. Gotta get me a jersey!
Unfortunately I believe #33 may not be available.
-
This Blindside story really came out at the right time I think. Gave him some good attention.
-
Remember when people thought he was a wasted scholarship. Sometimes we have to wait more than an exhibition game and a few non-conference games to judge players.
Congrats Jimmy! I think he will fit in very well on a contender. Hopefully he can do what Matthews has done and start out as a role player and grow into one of the main options.
-
So who else is there to compete with for PT?
Luol Deng
Taj Gibson
Ronnie Brewer
Kyle Korver
Rasual Butler
are any of these guys gone next year?
-

Luol Deng
Taj Gibson
Ronnie Brewer
Kyle Korver
Rasual Butler
Deng: Without a doubt, he is the starter at the 3. He had a great year.
Gibson: is the back-up at the 4. Very solid player. Jimmy ain't playing any 4 on the Bulls.
Brewer: the likely starter at the 2 given Bogans is probably gone.
Korver: bench guy that can't defend and will never start for the Bulls.
Rasual: he gone
Bogans: he gone
The Bulls are likely to pick-up a starting 2 in free agency which leaves CJ Watson as the back-up to Rose and Brewer as the back-up to the new SG. Jimmy will be able to battle with Brewer and Korver for minutes off the bench behind new SG and Deng. Coach Thibs love defense which will likely get Jimmy PT early.
-
Way to go Jimmy Butler
-
I believe that Bogans is back next year so thats another guy to compete with. However, I have a feeling that JB will work his way into the rotation as a backup for Deng. Deng played a lot of minutes this year and I don't think Thibs wants him playing that many minutes again this year.
As a Bulls fan, I was already pumped for next year, but it just got even better
-
Reinko, I'm looking forward to paying off the bet.
Well done Mr. Butler.
-
Was at Caffrey's for the draft. There was a hush before the pick, almost as if we could all sense that Jimmy was going to be selected there. Place went wild when his name was called. Congrats to Jimmy Butler!
-
It was nice last night to watch the news and see the local guy mention Jimmy and Marquette instead of focusing on the Illini for once.
-
I LOVE the Bulls and Golden Eagles. Great day all around for basketball!
Plus, Jimmy will get some PT. He is a way better defender than Korver will ever be, and he may hit an open three or two, unlike Korver in the playoffs.
-
Was pissed when the Celtics picked Brooks instead of Jimmy. Thank God they traded him away for the kid from Purdue. But since the Celts didn't take Jimmy I think that playing for Thibodeau will be a good situation for him. Let's hope this is another big step for JFB, the ultimate under the radar guy!

"Butler could join the rotation immediately, while it could be years until Mirotic suits up for Tom Thibodeau's team.
Forman believes he has filled at least one of those roster spots in the 6-foot-8 Butler, who averaged 15.7 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Golden Eagles. Butler was strong on the offensive glass, averaging 2.4 offensive rebounds per game in the rugged Big East. Butler stood out to the Bulls in his interviews because of his work ethic, and it seems clear in speaking with Bulls personnel that he will fit into the type of culture the team has tried to build over the past season under Thibodeau.
The prospect of playing with Derrick Rose, the NBA's reigning MVP, was an exciting one to Butler.
'I think he's going to be maybe the best player in this league one day. ... I just want to help this team win games,' Butler told "Chicago's Gamenight" on ESPN 1000 minutes after being drafted. 'That's what I'm here for. I want to win just like he wants to win. And I'm gonna do everything I can to bring it. [Give it] my all every day and hope that I can help us win a championship.'
Butler added that he looks forward to helping the Bulls do what they were unable to do in the 2011 playoffs: Defeat the Miami Heat.
'They just need somebody to go out there and guard,' Butler said. 'I'm telling you I'm going to make [Dwyane Wade], [LeBron James] work for every dribble, for every shot, for every step that they take. I'm gonna try to make it my hardest on them.'
'We're excited about what we accomplished, and with Jimmy Butler who we took with the 30th pick,' Forman told "Chicago's Gamenight." 'We think is a guy that's a real fit for us. Is a fit on the floor with the versatility he brings defensively and some of the things he can do offensively and is a real fit with our team off the floor. The type of makeup and character he has I think he'll fit in our locker room and with the culture we're creating.'"

Quietly, the Bulls also acquired 6ft 10in SF(?) Nikola Mirotic,(Rockets 23rd...sent to Minn., who then traded him to Chi) from Real Madrid, projected as NBA ready, to play minutes at the 3 or 4...although his buyout/escape from the euro contract is a question/possible delay. If immediately resolved....This may be JB competition, too.

Everything I've heard today makes it sound like Mirotic won't be coming any time soon, possibly not until 2015. I doubt Butler will have to worry about him next season.

Agree.
As Mirotic is listed at SF (never thought I'd see a 6ft 10in er at SF-lol), I thought it worth at least a quick note. This will be like Luis Scola, a pick now that will pay off for Bulls a few years from now.
JB wont start-- but I agree w/scouts seeing him as the ultimate NBA role player...the type that can have a nice, long stay in the league.
-
Jimmy's the man! I'll think twice about judging a Buzz recruit right off the bat. D. Wilson seems to have the same makeup of a hard work ethic. He could be just the guy who is a solid practice player in year 1 and a top big east guard by senior year.
-
Does anybody else remember way back when when some people would criticize JB for being too soft around the rim? ::)

I'm not understanding your point. Players can be soft at one point in their career and get better, that doesn't mean the criticism originally was invalid...right? Chris Crawford couldn't play a lick his Freshman year, neither could Amal...but they ended up pros after their senior years, that doesn't change the fact they couldn't play a lick earlier in their careers. Jimmy got better and stronger as a rebounder, not sure that changes the original comments.
I'd venture to say Gardner was overweight this year, out of shape, etc...by his senior year he might be the most chiseled, in shape guy on the team but that doesn't change what happened this year....same goes for how Vander played this year.

No, I don't. But then again, I put more value in what Ted Baxter says anyway. He was the first person I saw mention Butler's name as a potential recruit. Spoke highly of his potential. That man knows his stuff!!
