Having ad nauseum posts of student athletes in assault cases , here is one worth watching the video of, and picking a side.
At Houston Bush airport, ...A west point cadet who started some games for Army at CB, got into it with multipe bodygaurds of R&B Diva Patti Labelle...who did a "Neutron Dance" on him...but the cops sided with, and even posed for pics with the star.
On learning of the assault charge (they filed on him!) ..Army busted him down to private, and shipped him off for a 3 year active duty tour (likely to include combat).
Now, He has sued Patti over the "New Attitude" imposed on him by the bodygaurds, and Army.
Watch the video.....I am on the Army kid's side on this one...bodyguards outnumbered him, and used more force/attitude than needed.....yet he has his West Point career trashed. Also in you tube video...note how they fail to help the kid after cracking his head on the post. Filing assault charges only against him, with compliments/deference/photos of the stars group is the real ignominy, and unfairness.

The description in the video was a bit much. What does the man's race have anything to do with it?
1. I thought Patti LaBelle was dead
2. Why would she even need a body guard?

Race is not relevant...the atty posturing was also uneeded, and over the top.
What tipped me in favor of the kid (neither side is w/o blame, tho)...was...
The you tube showed none of bodyguards helping, after it was clear he was hurt...and although their filing of charges against him is bodyguard 101, to protect your star from charges...here it was a bit much..he already had the worst of the encounter, and it doesnt appear anyone questioned bodyguards on their extended force level, in response to what was likely a tipsy FBaller mouthing back. The force used was to protect luggage, and to retaliate for his spoken words (and possibly resisting the Bguard's initial shoving)-- Ms. LaBelle wasnt touched.
I hope the kid makes a crap-ton in his lawsuit. Totally unnecessary. Watching the cops pose for pictures made me sick. They should be put on desk duty. What a bunch of losers, and now that kid's career is ruined.

Both the PD and West Point looking at the facts again.

o.k. drunk and rowdy dude hangin too close to patti's luggage. as body GUARDS you can either (a) tell the dude in so many terms to get lost or (b) beat the living snot out of the guy until he defacates and urinates on himself. i hope patti goes broke defending herself on this one. a one or two hit hot tuna and her posse livin large-hit them with a hate crime too...bastards

unfortunately, it may be the bodyguards that get the worst of it.
though an alleged directive may have been issued, the bodyguards decide what proper interaction to deply.

The attorney pushing for criminal charges, is trying to leverage his suit claims. I dont think either side benefits society by a lawyered ramp up--after the fact.
..instead I'd hope we'd improve the on scene policing/possible false witnessing--(9th commandment)/star influence/and west point reacting, by learning a better way.
I am all for video replay.
In an airport...security needs merit video...and we'll all need to accept it.
Here, two sides got into it and after its over...the cops arrived.
Think of cops like referees...they arent judges or prosecutors (even though a few power trip a little). They had witnesses saying...intoxication (yes drinks--but no scientific evidence), drawing on society view of drinking...they had a star,$, and a limo...they had a FB player with a drink under his belt, with a history of concussions.
An on scene cop timeout, to watch the video could have avoided this entire brouhaha. Video replay would have made a difference (Vander should read this--too, lol).
. Why not give cops an iPhone app which downloads the video, on scene. Warn witnesses to tell the truth--up front, because we have a video.
Dont give anyone credence over a "he was drinking" claim--give him a test. Dont take the statements, pose for pics, and call West point to report a drinking/fight ---recognize that nowadays everyone BS's for personal gain/protection. Instead show them the video, and let digital science replace innuendo, spin, and prejudice.
Instead of this report that its being looked at again...because (thank god, and Al Qaeda-lol) we have video...in this day, why not make cops use and access immediately, all on scene video. Knowing they would would've inhibited both sides in their actions/statements, and in the end saved the people and the system lots of $$
Houwarrior that goes against everything of today's media. Too bad there are not more levelheaded people out there.
I hate that our whole lives are now videotaped. That said, in this case and ones like it we might as well use the evidence.

An employer typically is responsible for the actions of its employees so long as those actions are done in the course one one's work routine/duties.
So, even without a specific directive, Patti is on the hook for this one.

Its closer to home than employer/employee....Her son, 37, is the limo driver/bodyguard who filed the complaint with the cop. He's protecting his mama.
Regardless of civil suit outcome...on June 7, the Army reported it is steadfast on their dismissal of King from the academy--assigning him to a 18 month active duty hitch..as a private.

he'll be laughing all the way from his active duty after they settle this suit, either that, or he'll be the richest private on active duty
Patti LaBelle couterclaims...says the kid started it with his words....interesting..as the video has him talking on his cell...he was multi tasking--talking on cell, and picking a fight at the same time.

The photo posing cops have shifted position, and, now there are two open warrants charging LaBelle's body guards with assault. A criminal conviction, would likely seal liability against LaBelle and some $ will be going to the kid, who's lost his place at West Point, already.

it's about time justice is delivered. i'll take the character of a liquored-up west point dude over some has-been singers thugs any day. would love to see the reaction if the ethnicities were reversed and how much ink this would get then. on second thought, never mind. i already know the answer to that. how about hate crime enhancer? nope, doesn't apply either? well any crime of this nature is hatefull. maybe jesse jackson and shakedown sharpton will help her out
