Title: Gary Williams Really BF'd Maryland...
Post by: 4everwarriors on May 13, 2011, 09:11:00 AM
by leaving at this late date. Recruits flee like cockroaches in a dark kitchen when the lights are turned on. Why didn't he pull the plug at the end of the season?

Yea, if he had bailed at the end of the season like Crean did Maryland could have held onto their top incoming recruits like MU did in 2008.

Men and women can both be BF'd.

Our top level recruits didn't want to play for an unproven coach.  Can't blame them.

What Williams did doesn't come close to what Majerus did.

Indiana's top, middle and low level recruits didn't want to play for Crean. Can't blame them. Apparently Maryland's across the board recruits don't want to play for Turgeon. Can't blame them either.

So are Crean and Turgeon "unproven" or are you creating a strawman?

Turgeon has 5 NCAAs in 13 seasons.  I would go further than Chicos to suggest that not only is Turgeon not "unproven"--he's actually come closer to proving himself as a mediocre coach.

I'm somewhat surprised you couldn't see the differences between the thee programs you bring up.

Recruits were reluctant to still come to IU because of concerns over possible sanctions yet to come.
Recruits were reluctant to still come to MU because the coach was unproven.
Recruits were reluctant to still come to Maryland because they went from playing for a future hall of famer to a guy who is nowhere close.

No straw men--just a different situations that result in different reasons.

When you have the specter of probation staring you in the face, that's exactly right.  Look at the interviews with the players that left, with the top recruiting gurus...all said the same thing...expect massive transfers and tough recruiting because the NCAA is going to wallop them.  Ended up not happening, but they all left before the NCAA decision came down.

So if you can somehow compare the two situations...that would be great.  Right now you are comparing nothing similar at all and the really scary thing is that you are intelligent to know that but did it anyway.

TT's coach came flat out and said he knew nothing of Buzz and I'm sure imparted that to TT which made his decision and others to not play for an unproven coach very simple.

You also realize that some of the guys from Maryland that "decommitted" have said they may return to Maryland.  If you didn't know that, you might want to brush up on latest news.  In other words, they haven't committed anywhere else...yet.

Check the history of kids that decommit and say they may still wind up at school number 1.

No thanks...I have no doubt most probably don't recommit but some do.  Until they go elsewhere, this is not a done deal.  Let the dust settle first.
