Apparently Freshman forward Jordan Latham is leaving Xavier...On his ESPN recruit scouting report (from last year - I put the link below) Marquette was listed as one of the schools he considered up till the end. I wonder if he's one of the kids Buzz may reach out to about possibly filling that last scholarship.
Athletic kid...6'8", 245lbs (according to Yahoo)...already has a relationship with the MU coaching staff...he could be worth a look...
Anyone remember anything that pertains to our recruitment of him last year?
Here is his Scouting Report from ESPN in 2010: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/66803/jordan-latham
Apparently he initially committed to Xavier, then re-opened his recruitment and very seriously considered Marquette before re-committing to Xavier. According to some old Scout stories, Aki Collins was MU's primary recruiter and he and Latham reportedly got on well.
For those that care, Latham got 4 stars from Scout and 3 stars from Rivals.
By the way, two players transferrring from Xavier. What's wrong with Chris Mack? Very troubling.
I would take Latham at Marquette.
He was a teammate of Nick Faust in high school and the lead recruiter for Latham, Bino Ransom, went to Maryland and recruited Faust for the Terrapins and I'd guess they might be tough to beat.
Well, he certainly has to be impressed with how good we are after the tournament game.
He only played in 16 games, averaging 4.5 minutes and 1/2 ppg.
He will not help us. Pass.

Totally confused by this post...do you want Latham because he played with Faust in high school? Or because Bino Ransom recruited Faust and showed interest in Latham?
Anyway, I think Latham would be a good add, he seems like the face-up 4 we've been looking for. Though while he seems solid, and had plenty of legit high-major interest, I'd sooner have Aaric Murray. Even though Latham fits our voids better, Murray seems like a potentially dominant player, while Latham seems like a solid one. But that's the difference between a borderline 5-star center and a solid 3-star power. I did find a video where he shows off a few decent moves, some nice range, and good face-up play:

I should have said I'd take him if he fits into what Marquette wants on and off the court and by that I mean his attitude and if he's going to work hard.
Don't know much about his background off the court, but on the court he'd have 4 years to play 3 and I like what his video shows.
If he can't beat us, join us.

Would like to go to school closer to Baltimore, so he may not have MU on his radar.

Your post confirms the old axiom that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well played.

When are you going to learn willie that people don't take you seriously when you only look at the stats.

UMMM.... I guess you are probably right... do not evaluate players based in part on their performance..evaluate them because they are 6'8" and weigh 245.
Sultan---pretty lame!!!!!!
willie, do you know anything about who was playing in front of him? Don't you think that a ton of programs would want to have Jamail as a transfer depite his numbers this year. Do you not understand the word "potential?"
Pathetic.

This is the capper on what I think may very well be the most ignorant and short-sighted string of posts I've ever seen in my 7 years as a regular poster on various message boards. I don't know whether to be impressed, albeit in a very sad way, or if I should just shake my head in disbelief.
For what it's worth, Xavier had a 6'8" 245-lb fifth-year senior forward who averages over 30 mpg, 10 ppg, and 8 rpg. When he's not in, their backup is a 6'9" sophomore that averages over 16 mpg, getting double-digit minutes in all but 2 games this year. He was another 3-star guy (per Rivals) that has had more time in the system and more time to develop.
Maybe next time, before you post about how useless a guy is, try some perspective. Just a suggestion.

So what you're saying, Willie, is that MU should get rid of Jamail Jones and E-Will because they didn't play many minutes or fill the stat line this year? Although, I believe you've stated your belief that Buzz should be getting all 4 and 5 star recruits, which is amazingly ironic considering how you pushed for Gardner to play all year.

Yeah, pathetic. Only played in half of his games at 4.5 minutes pg and scored half a point a game. That is somebody we should burn our last scholarship on--right Sultan.
Tell you what--you take him. You seem to be so impressed by him, take him. What is really pathetic is you trying to make a case for somebody you know very little about and has not done anything, because somebody was playing ahead of him. That some body playing ahead of him that you talk about was more talented than him. Now maybe a guy with those talents is somebody we should burn our last scholarship on.
Give it up Sahib of Touchdown Jesus--you just like to argue for argument's sake, and are not worth that effort.
6'8" and 245 lbs...sounds like a true PF

So by the same logic you are saying we should get rid of Jamail Jones because he was not as good as Butler or DJO? Although, we never really should have kept Butler because he wasn't as good as Lazar or Wes, and Zar should have been gone because his freshmen stats were very average. I have no clue if we should take the kid or not, but your logic of judging kids by the number of stars attached to their name, or freshman year stats is ridiculous.
Actually, Jay Canty, the other transfer, was rated higher than Latham. He may also be a better fit in the Coach Williams system or he may be a clone of currant players.
It seems like we're all starving for recruiting news. Wish there was a news update format on recruiting, so we could better follow the recruiting activity for MU.

hypocrisy much?
Maybe he'll develop into that player by the time he's a 5th year senior. As did X's starter from this year. Sitting out can be a good thing.
--------------------------------------------------
Sounds good like a good addition, but if he's leaving for pt why would he come here to be a back up?
He'd sit out and then be fighting for PT with Ewill and Wilson. Does X have another recruit coming in at the 4?
Saw this article...

Quote from: Cincinnati.comThe freshman averaged 4.8 minutes – behind Canty's 7.4 and above Griffin McKenzie's 2.5 – and wanted more. Although he was quite complimentary of XU, from his coaches to his teammates, Latham said he wanted to pick up more minutes in a program closer to his Baltimore home.
Looks like minutes aren't the only concern, and if he wants to be closer to home, we'll likely be out of the running. My guess is he rejoins Faust at Maryland if they have a scholarship, otherwise possibly a smaller school in that area.

YOU are the one who looked at nothing but his stat line and said "Pass." YOU are the one passing judgement on someone you know little about.
I know nothing about him. That is why I have not passed judgement either way.
Stop being a hypocrite.

Just sayin.

He was rated pretty low out of high school as well...surely not MU material, yet doing better than many of the 4 and 5 star recruits that Willie thinks Buzz should be landing complete classes of.
These are couple of players Buzz could look into, especially, M'Baye. We could definitely use a 6'9 big that averaged 12 ppg and 5.7 reb.
