Title: Coaching Carousel 2011
Post by: T-Bone on April 04, 2011, 10:46:02 AM
This seems like the most comprehensive list out there:
http://collegesportsinfo.com/2011/02/08/2011-college-basketball-coaching-changes-potential-candidates/

Monarch mentioned for the Lamar job.
Aki mentioned for Fairfield.

I have no idea about the reliability of the information there, so take it as is.

There's also a nice table driven list maintained on our very own wiki...

Can only hope Lamar hires Monarch.

Aki didn't get the job.  Would love for our assistants to get their shot.

No one wants the NC State job....their AD, Debbie Yow, sent this email out to fans and alumni last night since rumors have been flying about various people all saying no. The wish list their fanbase had was delusional but that's a whole other story. This letter has them all ready to jump off cliffs and they are calling for her head for making them look weak and like an afterthought. This will be the most interesting one to watch unless Calhoun retires.

The last time they were relevant was when they beat us in 1974 and then when Valvano cheated them into the NC in 1983. We think we had it bad....they're sitting within 25 miles of both UNC and Duke and have had to watch their levels of annual success.....wouldn't want to be a wuffie fan right now.

"Dear Wolfpack Family,

I am writing to share with you the status of the search for our new head coach for men's basketball. There have been telephone conversations with successful coaches that did not develop into meetings -- sometimes because we did not wish to pursue those coaches further and sometimes because the coach involved is happy where he is.

The conversations have been candid. We have not tried to sugarcoat the challenge of rebuilding our basketball program. Our absence for 5 consecutive years from the NCAA Tournament was noted by each coach as evidence that the program is in poor shape and will require a special effort to rebuild.

Finding a coach with the fight and fire to do this job has been a challenge. That said, we will find an excellent college coach who shares the vision of what State Basketball can become and is up for the challenge.

I realize there are multiple rumors surfacing about the nature of the search on websites and in newspapers. Once our new coach is hired, I will be in a position to bring perspective to a number of those rumors. But, right now, we need to remain focused on finding a talented collegiate coach who is a fighter, full of confidence and appreciation for the opportunity to lead our basketball program back to national prominence

That will happen in spite of those who believe this cannot occur.

Wolfpack Basketball is destined for a revival. We will accept no less. Please keep the faith while we continue the search. Your emails and text messages of support have meant everything to me. I am blessed to be your AD.

In the Spirit of the Pack,

Debbie "

I think the Valvano cheating happened after he won the championship...he was having trouble keeping up with the expectations his success set.

NC State is going to hire Mark Gottfried.

This may turn out to be a very good choice for them.

Loved her in the shower scene of "European Vacation."

I think Monarch was a lazy hire. Also see him as low man on totem pole and it'd be nice to add some veteran DI experience to the bench as I'm not sure how much longer we can dodge Benford or Aki not moving on. I also don't see Buzz moving on him so picking up an HC job is likely only way he's off staff.

Actually, there's a shower scene in both.
But only in European Vacation did said scene go on to become a hit film in Italy.
