Kentucky hits the 3 to go up 4 with 30 seconds left. ol' Roy has four (4) timeouts left and a ridiculously young team on the floor. He elects to not use a timeout, they run around like headless chickens and jack up an embarassing shot. You can try that stuff if you have senior guards you trust on the floor, but ol' Roy needs to call timeout there.
One of the more annoying things I have seen lately are coaches who refuse to use TOs in game ending situations because they don't want the other team to be able to set up their defense. But at the end of regulation in the S16 game, Leonard Hamilton didn't use a TO...FSU had the ball in a tie game against VCU.
But one player gets the ball and decides to be the hero...terrible shot.
NC's defense was terrible this entire tournament (they were lucky not to lose to Long Island or Wash)......except for the first half against MU
They played really well against us (and we played badly as well) but if you think about it, not too many netural/away wins against big time competition in awhile for them. Same thing for Duke.
ACC record in neutral games in the NCAA tourney: 2-3
Using Sagarin Ratings ... Duke's best Road/Neutral court win this year was against MU in Kansas City.
So gratifying on many levels: (i) ACC teams are gone (will not have to listen to the idiot Charles Barkley knocking the Big East and praising the ACC), (ii) will not have to see Roy Williams (he may be an aw shucks nice guy, but I don't like him or his teams); and (iii) did I mention there are no ACC teams (Jim Nantz might have to actually develop new material, instead of using the old ACC bromides).

Ol' Roy knows his team well, and obviously felt that it was best to not call a timeout and let Kentucky set up their defense. I trust his coaching decisions more than 99% of coaches in college bball - but playing "Monday Morning Quarterback" is always fun. You're probably right, but was that the three that Barnes threw up? I don't remember what the game situation was, but I felt he was fouled on a crucial three attempt, and thought overall UNC got screwed by the officials.
Don't blame Roy for this one. Every time Kentucky got in trouble they drilled a 3. They just played great and won a great game.

Agreed. I kept thinking that when UNC got close, Kentucky would start to tighten up a bit and miss a few shots...they just kept falling. If history repeats itself, for a third time, we should find that Cal cheated to get to the Final Four.

I thought NC might have been fouled as well on 3 attempt. They never showed the replay because KY responded with their own 3 and CBS was too busy checking KY foot on their 3.
it was incredible to see UNC's disinterest (inability?) to adjust to the UK ball screens.
If ol' Roy takes a TO immediately, it gives the officials a chance to confer on whether or not the Kentucky player's foot was on the line, rather than after 20 seconds of the last 30 seconds has played out. If it had been ruled his foot was on the line, can you imagine the furor? Take the TO, get your team set, let the officials sort that stuff out so you can play the final 35 seconds with a clear plan.
