Title: VCU-Butler
Post by: nyg on March 27, 2011, 03:36:57 PM
Wow, does the VCU victory put it above George Mason's over UCONN?

VCU from the CAA and Butler from Horizon, one will go to final game.  This is why college basketball is awesome.

And ... he was 2nd team all conference.  The Badger South is a tough conference!

No. Remember who was on that UCONN Team. 5 draft picks...Rudy Gay, Boone, Adrien, and Hilton Armstrong included

Play-in game team makes the final four!

Side note, of the 5.9 million brackets filled out on ESPN, how many had Butler, VCU and Uconn?

I know Obama's did not.  He's done with the Kansas loss.

From Jay Bilas' tweet:

"Shaka Smart (33) and Brad Stevens (34) combined age is younger than Jim Calhoun (68). Incredible."

Unreal.

I'm sure many of you don't follow how BracketBuster Weekend works in February, but the last time a CAA school played at Wichita State in the BracketBuster event was in 2006 and it was George Mason. Mason won at WSU but didn't win it's league and got an at-large birth to the NCAA toury, with many didn't think they should've been in. (George Mason went to the Final Four)

VCU won at Wichita State in the BracketBuster event this season and didn't win it's league (CAA) and got an at-large birth, with many didn't think should've been in. (VCU is now in the Final Four)

George mason also beat: some really big time heavyweights like Michigan State, and North Carolina as well

My son just told me that if Kentucky wins, one person will have all 4 Final 4 entries from the ESPN bracket.  So, one person has VCU, Butler and UCONN.  How?  Why?  I would have laughed at their picks!    :o

VCU had to play 5 games to get to the Final Four - first time in history.

USC, Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State and Kansas.

I'd say that is an impressive road to the Final Four.

Awesome that a Mid Major is guaranteed to be in the final

Some BCS exectuive right now is saying "Thank God we have rigged it to ensure a small school like this cannot get into the Championship game in football".

Fortunately basketball has the NCAA and the little guys have their day ON court.   ;D

I believe I saw that 2 of those 5.9 million entries had the correct Final Four

That UConn team was sick - I remember them being by far the most talented team in that tournament. They also were largely disinterested for a good chunk of the year if I'm not mistaken, and had coasted through some of their later games. I still think that game was a bigger upset, because you knew at the time that UConn team had some legitimate pros and they seemed to matchup better with George Mason. Coming into this one, you had the feeling VCU could run with Kansas. Certainly doesnt take away from it though, what an achievement.

Pandemonium here in Richmond today - people at my work were clapping and cheering when the final buzzer sounded. I have considered VCU my second favorite team after Marquette since moving down here and it is nice to finally see them getting the attention they deserve. Can't wait to watch the game downtown Richmond next weekend!
