Title: Last Scholarship
Post by: ceh on March 27, 2011, 08:59:45 AM
I have to think with all the coaching changes, we are able to pick-up a nice player for next year.  Anything thought / rumors out there as to how this may pan-out?  It would sure be nice to be the beneficiary for once of another school's misfortune.

Lets add insult to injury and swipe Cameron Clark from Oklahoma!

anyone have updates on God's Gift recruitment?

I know Lavin was after him, hopefully our tourney showing put us over the Johnnies in GG's eyes.

Why do we want a Juco D2?

Because the guy is dam good and he is a 6-9, 230 rebounding machine.

even though he plays in the D2 level of Juco, some services do have him listed around the 20th best player in all Juco divisions.

From what I last read, St. John's, Cincinnati, West Virginia, Rhode Island and Niagara are considered the frontrunners.
Some interest from Iowa and even possibly Kentucky.

A rebounding machine is exactly what we need.  We were 200th in the country in giving up offensive boards this year.  Part of the reason why our defense lacked at times.

And I think Crowder would be the first to admit he got overpowered by larger 4's this year.  Would be nice to bring someone off the bench would can play D and rebound against other team's fours.  Offense is secondary at this point.

Unless we get a no-brainer, I'd like to see Buzz recruit need with the last scholarship this year and next year.

One PG and one big man.  It does not matter if it is a transfer, JUCO, or high school player.  I'd rather get the big man and redshirt him knowing Crowder can give a few minutes at the 5 if necessary.

I really don't like having only two PGs as well.  Hopefully someone else on the team can handle the ball in an emergency.

2013 should be the class where Buzz aims for a top ranked class.

Of those you mentioned, I think the only one we are involved with is Jarion Henry.  I hope we are not still considering Monterale Clark.

Have we ever redshirted a kid who didn't need it based on injury? I get the theory, but if we recruit a kid, even a project, I don't think he sits out unless he is forced to due to injury or transfer status.

From the strategy of building a team for the future, a JUCO is not what we need right now.  If we get one, he would split minutes with Otule--and both players would be gone after the 2013 season, creating a huge hole in the lineup.

Get a guy borderline top 100 like Jon Leuer or Aaron Gray--someone who you don't expect much from for two years.  Don't give up after one season, and work to develop him for the 2013-14 year.
