Title: Back from Newark...
Post by: ecompt on March 26, 2011, 01:30:22 PM
after spending quality time with some very nice MU fans.
First half was as bad as anything since the infamous ND game in Milwaukee nearly 30 years ago. My god, a 35-8 run??? DJO forced shots, Jae looked shell-shocked, unbelievably bad turnovers, Buycks looked like he had never handled a basketball before, Otule was overwhelmed. If not for Gardner we might have not scored 10 points. But we played hard in the second half and kleft a klot of hope for the future. If Devante can lose 20 pounds he could be a force inside the next three years. Junior must develop a midrange jumper but I love the fact he is fearless driving to the basket. I still don't know about Vander, but at least he drained his two free throws.
Overall, though, I thought going in they were playing with house money, so I wasn't crushed. The future looks bright. Thanks, seniors, for everything you did. You made us proud.

It wasn't a great outcome...but thanks for going and showing up. What was the size of the MU contingent?

the worst thing about the game in Newark is that there is no beer at the game and you cannot leave and come back in.
oh yeah the first half made me need a drink

The Mu slice at the game appeared to be sold out, so we appeared to be represented as well as any other program. Other than a few shout outs during the pre-game the MU faithful were (relatively) quiet throughout. I sold my tickets on Sunday for $60 (face was $98) so all was not lost on the dismal performance.

Congrats seniors for a great 4, 3, and 2 years. If Buzz leaves the program will endure.

We trailed by 29 points at halftime vs. Kansas in 2003, so I beg to differ. We also lost to Louisville by 47 points a couple years later. It was bad, but let's get some perspective.

sorry, Goose. Should not have opened up an old wound, but that's the only game I could compare it to (other than Kansas, but that was Kansas shooting lights out). Friday's half was just dismal. But they played very hard in the second half.
Side note: I found a very nice UNC guy who paid me face value for my Sunday tickets. I have no idea what the thousands of Ohio State fans did with their tickets. They appeared to have the most fans there Friday.

Where were your seats that you sold for $60 each... lowers, 100's, 200 uppers?  Hate to break it, but you left money on the table regardless of section.  That being said if you were headed out of town Sat morning, it's an easy fix.

Dude, not to make you feel bad but my wife got 100 for hwer ticket stub so someone who had already paid to get into the arena could move up to the 18th row.  We seemed to sell all but a couple of rows at the topofthe first section.

A couple of jersey guys had seats there and from the beginning kept using obnoxious language and saying things like, "bring out the body bags for these guys." I got really ticked and was going to say something back, but when I turned to peak they both looked like they benched about 550, and I remembered I was in jersey, so I let them talk.

Here's one way to look at it - we lost in the first half, but we won in the second half!  It was really, really fun to party with the MU crowd.  Everyone was buying drinks/shots for everybody, very festive even after the game, believe it or not.  It looked like Murphy's at the Brick!  Met a ton of really, really great people, chatted with Fr. Wild and the new president.  Overall an awesome experience.  I'll take the Sweet Sixteen anytime!
