Title: Honest question
Post by: 96warrior on March 25, 2011, 09:50:41 PM
Where was DJO tonight? Seemed like he hardly saw the floor.

I agree, I said it in the in-game chat several times, wondering why VB got so many minutes when we needed a lot of POINTS and VB right now is NOT a scorer.

He had a lot of minutes just no production.  This year he was very inconsistent offensively.  I don't think he hit his first bucket until late in the second half.

Just looked up the box score and he apparently played 25 minutes. I swear it seems he played half that. Non existent....7 points total.

I thought DJO was the only aggressive player in the first half. He wasn't effective because it's difficult to attack the rim with the size of Carolina.  They didn't foul and altered shots.  I thought Blue's play on defense in the 2nd half warranted keeping him in.

He shot poorly with the open looks.  The early foul he had, off the ball on offense, took him out of the game for part of the 1st half as well.

You're right but who didn't shoot poorly tonight?  I think we are a better team when DJO is aggressive.  Everyone was tight in the first half and he tried to make something happen.  We were shell shocked after we hung tough for the first 8 minutes and they responded by pushing and getting some easy baskets.  I thought we took ourselves out of the game early.  We needed to keep the tempo slow but we also needed to take the shots that they were giving us.  Tough game overall but a great year.

Sorry, I thought the thread was about DJO and why he didn't play much.  I thought there were other threads on how poorly or well the other guy's played.  My bad.

My point was that he was ineffective (but not as bad as everyone else in the 1st half) and I think Buzz was trying to find some answers in working in Blue in the 2nd half.  I don't think DJO should be criticized for how he played tonight.  I'm not saying you were criticizing him.  I'm just saying I think he took his opportunities and they didn't go.

You are right, I wasn't criticizing. It honestly felt like he didn't see the floor. It's glaringly obvious when he is off or gets shut down. Disrupts our entire game.

DJOs inconsistency is frusterating, next year its crucial we don't see that. However, as terrible as the first half was, he was the only one constantly saying, Kmon guys, keep pushing.

Better question...why did we wait til second half to go zone or try anything different?

Vander was not inconsistent on offense, he was nonexistent on offense. He was a complete non factor and did not improve an inch offensively all season. At least Junior made progress on the offensive end, Vander was terrible.

Observations--We need a big-time big. Some guys that can shoot when the pass gets kicked out to perimeter. Blue is horrible, Buycks and Crowder (Passes) would have sat the whole game if Al was
coaching. Odom and Jordan Taylor both choked in the big game. Odom all year when playing
to competition. Gardner knows his way under the basket. I thought with the score EWill and
Jones would have played more.
