I had to grin while reading the article from title to finish.

Thanks, Chico!

There is an absolute rule there is NO CHEERING or JEERING at all at press row.  What their AD was doing is completely taboo in the world of sports (pro or college).

People have been talking about embarrassments the last few days...now that is truly an EMBARRASSMENT.   It's one thing to miss shots, it's quite another to be a complete a-hole as an AD and act that way on press row.

Most reporters wouldn't have reported it.  I'm not a big Doyel fan, but if I was on press row and saw that kind of action....well kudos to Doyel.  Totally unacceptable behavior and an AD at a national program would have learned that on his first job at a JC, let alone in the Big Ten.  Ridiculous behavior.

More on this story from the Chicago Tribune.  Plus I know that it's been getting some coverage on sports talk in the Chitown area.

I'm glad to see they didn't waiver from the "no cheering in the press box"....an absolute must in sports.

The only thing I don't like is Guenther's response as if to blame it on the reporter.

All that blaming Doyel does is continue to make Guenther look like a jerk.  Looks like Guenther still got called out by the Big Ten Commissioner as well as the Chancellor, too.

good.

i just love it when dinosaurs like Guenther blame the Internet as the evil cause of these kinds of things.

nice job, Ron.

"Illinois' offense is a bunch of weaving until someone chucks an NBA-range 3-pointer before the shot clock expires."

Jeez -- that unfortunately sounds too familar.

Disclaimer - I hate the weave, dribble-east-west and long three point offense as much as everyone.

When the talent was there, that offense worked pretty darn well.  As much as I hate Illinois, their championship run team was a lot of fun to watch.  Just like our offense is a lot more fun to watch when we have any sort of inside presence or outside shooters.  Last year, with the three amigos and Novak/Chapman, it could be a thing of beauty to watch (at times).

Illinois President decides not to discipline Guenther.

Guenther and Illinois' basketball and football programs have been under pressure this year over a variety of troubles.

The basketball team's first-round NCAA exit followed a car accident that led to felony charges against sophomore guard Jamar Smith for drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident that left his passenger, center Brian Carlwell, with a serious concussion. And Rich McBride, a senior guard, pleaded not guilty this month to drunken driving after an arrest last fall.

Two weeks ago, football coach Ron Zook kicked two players off the team after they were charged with burglary and theft. Jody Ellis and Derrick McPhearson pleaded not guilty.

Despite the troubles, Herman said he continues to support Guenther.

"The man runs a high-integrity program," Herman said.
