Watching Lamb tonight...crap, crap, crap.
I know many here think it will be a piece of cake for Blue to re-work that screwed up jumper over the summer, but Blue isn't 1/10th the player that Lamb is now.
Lamb really wanted to come to MU? Crap Crap Crap.
No way. Where did it say that he wanted to come?
where did you suddenly come from with your 16 negative-filled posts? what was your former scoop name that was banned?
Please not now.....come on give it a break.
This is really an unnecessary thread to start....yes Lamb looks like he will be a very good player..has put up some great stats already. Vander has struggled..but has a very good attitude, is working hard, and has a lot of potential. He's extremely young for his class (July birthday that wasn't held back)...
Support the players that are here..and don't long for those who arent..
I could actually see a red shirt year for Vander being a very good thing - though I'm sure he wouldn't want to..it would help his body fill out, and give him a lot of time to work on his game in a great training grounds environment like MU and Buzz (hopefully!)
poop is really a badger but we can humor him.

There was some old post in which Jeremy Lamb came to MU and practiced. The poster said Lamb was judged to be terrible by the staff and was not offered, even though Lamb wanted to come to MU. Who knows.

He's a small-time donor damnit, and he wants to voice his opinions on MU.
/just read his tirade in the Superbar

I thought I read that he even visited MU? Maybe I'm wrong, and I apologize if I am.
Was there a different guy who wanted to come to MU and we didn't want him?

I guess that's the same as your parents who should have adopted a mutt rather than you.

No, the past post stated it was Jeremy Lamb, not Doron Lamb or Mary had a little Lamb.

Seriously?! A red-shirt year? He'll have 6+ months after the season ends to get ready for next year. Sitting him out a season would be a ridiculous thing to do.

Yes, Lew Alcindor.
Arguing Lamb versus Blue is absolutely idiotic. Would anyone actually assert that Buzz should have passed on Vander Blue in favor of Jeremy Lamb? Imagine what the outcry would have been if Buzz had told Vander Blue, a five-star in-state player that decided to snub his commitment to Wisconsin in favor of coming to Marquette, and instead brought in a locally unknown 3/4 star player from Georgia. And considering Buzz's recruiting mindset, whom else should he have snubbed? Reggie Smith or Davante Gardner? Both slightly lower prospects than Lamb, but Buzz's philosophy is that he wants a big and a point in every class. Or maybe Jamil Wilson, another top-40 in-state player who decided to come back from across the country to attend Marquette? The only real argument might be Jae Crowder, and as good as Lamb has been and likely will be, I don't know that he'd have had as big an impact on our team this year as Jae did, and I've no idea who'd play the four if not for Jae.
Listen, Lamb looks like an excellent player. I'd love it if he was on Marquette, but it's a tough sell trying to argue that he would fit in here better than any of the recruits we did bring in when you consider Buzz's philosophy, and it's crazy to think that a new coach would be praised for bringing in a Georgia kid who was borderline top 100 when there were two top-40 in-state players. Like it or not, recruiting is not just about bringing in great players, but also winning the local recruiting war for fan support. Again, I'd love Lamb, but I can see why he wouldn't have been offered here.

I realize my red shirt thought is probably a little controversial given Vander's 5-star status coming in, but he is VERY young for his class..still just 18 years old...
Can Vander improve a lot in the next 6 months? Absolutely. Would he be signficantly improved in 18 months? Yes, and I think he'd only build confidence in those 18 months and not have confidence eroded if he plays next year and has the same struggles...
There is NO doubt Vander can be a special player and has all the tools physically...and attitudinally (from all we hear and observe)....just think he could really benefit from a red shirt year...and benefit long term with regard to his chances for an NBA career..
Ners--We agree again. Blue was very young freshman and too athletically gifted not to improve his shooting. If he works hard over the summer we will see a vastly improved offensive player. I really, really like his upside potential.

Nice to be on the same page instead of bickering Goose! However, I would offer one slight modification to your post - I believe Vander is too hard working and has too good of attitude, to not put in the the work that will be required improve his shooting. His athletic gifts alone aren't enough to improve his shooting...he needs a ton of repetition..

Have to disagree. Getting a year older while not playing competitive basketball is definitely not going to help his chances at an NBA career. In fact, despite his struggles this season, he's already listed on Chad Ford's NBA prospect list (along with Butler and DJO from MU).

Sitting out a year would be devastating to Blue's NBA hopes. Talent and youth are the two most valuable commodities a potential draftee can have. He needs to improve in the natural flow of the season and off-season.
Junior Cadougan didn't sit out last year even when he had every excuse in the world to do so. He used his mediocre performance last year as a stepping stone (I still remember his first shot was an airball 3 in Syracuse that wasn't even close and he had 3 Turnovers early in that game)
Now he's a true, bona fide leader who I think we all can say we're excited to see the future with.
I believe Vander is well on his way along that process, and I fully expect him to be better than where Junior is now by this time next year, maybe even by January. If you think about it, his confidence will come with more playing time and ballhandling in clutch situations, which is inevitable. Really all he has to consciously work on is that stroke and his ability to finish in the lane. He's already a tenacious player, good rebounder, great defender and reliable ball-handler with great moves to get in position but hasn't been able to knock down the shot yet.
These comparisons to other outstanding freshman like Lamb and even Knight (which I have seen on this board) or even to a player like Gasser (who's game is so different from Vander's in every way that I honestly think it's an insult to even compare the two's development, since Gasser is a spot-up shooter more than anything else, which happens to be Vander's weakness) are fruitless and to be honest quite irritating. It used to be that freshmen didn't even play on the varsity and now if they aren't on Sportscenter regularly they're treated as busts.

Youth and talent only matter if they are translating into on court production..and I'm not sure that Vander will put up much in the way of stats even next year (offensively)...
He needs a good bit of time in the weight room at MU...in addition to his jump shot needing work...and he'd only be 20 entering his "sophomore" year if he did red shirt. He'd graduate as a 22 year old...Lazar got drafted at 23...leaving MU after a 5-year career at 22 years old is not going to crush your draft stock..

April thru October is more than enough time to hit the weights and work on his jumper.
Buzz really screwed it up by getting Blue instead of Irving...

I don't think sitting out a year will do him any good, but more important, will it do Marquette any good? He'll probably be the third guy in our 3-guard sets next year, and has already shown himself to be a willing lock-down defender. Offensively, he can get to the rack, and it's not like he needs 3-point range, just a 12-foot jumper.
No way does Buzz redshirt him. He's far too important to what we do. With Buycks and Butler leaving, Blue only becomes more important. He averaged over 19 mpg this year. Who do those minutes go to if not Blue? Are you that comfortable handing that much time to another freshman like Mayo or Wilson? Will Jones skip past Blue in the pecking order?
It would be bad for Blue to take a year off and it would be even worse for Marquette.
Watching Walker in person tonight was a treat. Back when we played them at UCONN I was back east and he looked ok, but nothing great. Tonight, he was GREAT. The San Diego State fans were so frustrated with their defense. The guy behind me, I thought he was going to die from a brain aneurysm it was so bad. Kemba was sensational.
