Title: No love for Quette
Post by: JD on March 21, 2011, 09:05:32 PM
This is just a part of the first paragraph, enjoy.

But Marquette pulled out a win against Syracuse thanks, in part, to one of a handful of blown calls this weekend

The comments come to our defense nicely.

It is rankling to see how some of the media covers us. Little do they know it just makes that chip on our shoulders that much bigger. I think folks are in for a surprise on Friday night....

That whole article was very anti-Marquette.  I guess he wasn't watching when Rick Jackson basically tackled Otule and Otule picked up a critical foul.

Or when Melo swatted the ball out of the net, which should have been a T and his 3rd personal foul. Or the phantom 3 second call on Otule.  Or that there was a travel on the play that he is complaining about, making his point, and basically column, mute moot.

The Syracuse game was probably the first MU game Matt Norlander has watched all year. Pretty weak assessment. Anyone can give a regional preview by just picking the one seed and knocking the 11.

I love this sort of attention for the exact reason you stated.  Did we have some rough games and end up with a pretty lackluster record this season?  Sure.  But we took down some huge teams and, for the most part, hung in until the end in every one of those losses (barring the second Louisville loss).

I hope we absolutely destroy UNC on Friday to finally shut these haters up once and for all.

I watched the game again last night...what about the call on O'Tule (I believe his 3rd) when Rick Jackson flopped and during the flop pulled Chris down on top of him? (Happened mid way through the 2nd Half)  Even Len Elmore said it was a bad call while they showed the replay.

I think the officiating wasn't great but it wasn't great for both teams.

I don't necessarily think MU is gonna win, but it seems to me some folks nationally are getting way too hung up on the meaningless number 11 next to MU's name. I have been beating the drum since before the pairings came out that the seedings beyond the first 12-15 teams or so would be somewhat meaningless. Had Xavier-MU come up with MU as the 6 and X as the 11, would anyone even have noticed or raised an eyebrow (alright maybe if it was 7-10 instead)? Maybe, but I don't think you would have heard a ton of surprise or screaming. Therefore, if you buy that MU could just as easily have been a 7 seed,  would all of this MU is gonna get squished talk be anywhere near as loud as it is now? I'd doubt it.

The writer claims that MU is out of place. Says UK and OSU shouldn't meet until the FF, but mis-seeding is preventing that. The only way you can make that claim is by concluding that UK deserved a 2 seed (or higher). I for one don't see that on their resume, relative to the other 1's and 2's.

I think MU is gonna get beat because I have watched them all year, and I don't see this as a very good match up for them. I haven't paid any attention to that 11 next to their name. Nor should anyone else, because it doesn't mean anything, but when you are a national writer who has probably not even seen them play, its the biggest thing you have to go on.

I clearly remember people saying the same thing before we trounced Kentucky by 20
