That seems really harsh considering the nature of their violations. My assumptions are that the NCAA is trying to make an example of someone in terms of selling memorabilia and/or that this is a Capone/OJ type of "sentence" where they're being punished for their other "crimes" as opposed to what they've actually been convicted of doing.

NCAA not fooling around lately with the hits on USC and potential hits coming to Tennessee, etc.

What's that they say about the crime vs. the coverup?
OSU's problem isn't that the players sold memorabilia, etc., it's that the coaching staff knew about it and chose not toe report it. Instead, they knowingly used players who may very well have been declared ineligible.

Those penalties seem harsher than I would expect, but don't be surprised if the NCAA comes down hard.

I don't understand how they can keep their games from being televised.  Doesn't that hurt their opponent as well?

One of the comments on the site identifies this as a key clue that the information is not true.  I don't think that this means that the NCAA won't be bringing the hammer down on OSU -- I think it will -- but just that this particular list of penalties is not accurate.

This is not going to help Tressel or OSU. guess his "it had to remain confidential" excuse doesn't quite work anymore. i wonder what his next BS reason for not passing on the violations will be?

I saw that earlier today.

If I was running tOSU's athletics department, this would really, really piss me off.  I'd be pissed that he didn't tell me.  But I'd be really pissed that he didn't tell me and he told Pryor's camp.
