Title: Nits to pick and other observations
Post by: tower912 on March 21, 2011, 07:54:39 AM
Timeout with a minute to go and the play we run is for Cadougan to circle the zone and drive on a Kamikaze mission?   Chris, you aren't in BEast games anymore.   Step out of the lane.    And quit getting in foul trouble.    BTW, that was a heck of a tackle that Syracuse guy put on him....that got called on Chris.    Not sure about the over and back call, but he travelled anyway.   Slow starts are infuriating.   Fast finishes mean all is forgotten.    JFB, DJO, and the two JC's stepped up in crunch time....what we had been missing all year.       Putting JFB on Scoop during the last couple of minutes was genius.   Syracuse missed all of the other size mismatches, as we were playing small with our biggest player on their PG.     So close....a couple of those block/charge calls go the other way and we are the ones lamenting our fate.   Buzz and the 3 JUCO's sitting on the dais talking about the sweet 16.   Nice symbolism.      Phenomenal.    Awesome.   I haven't been able to stop giggling yet.

I said the same thing to my Dad about the Cadougan play after a timeout.  I thought Cadougan had a pretty nice game, invented some offense when we really needed it and pushed the ball pretty well.  Those were some big shots by Crowder and DJO at the end, nice job fellas!  The play where Otule was pulled to the ground and he got called for a foul was a pretty bad call not sure how in the world the ref missed it.  All in all, I thought the game was officiated fairly well.  Ohio State looked amazing against George Mason. One last thing, when we picked up our tickets at the Q Center at the MU counter I asked how many tickets they sold to the the game and he said about 550.  Sure seemed like a lot more than that, anyone have an idea how many we really had?  550 seems like an awfully small number for an drivable tourney game.

I'd guess that wasn't the play, so much as one of the options on the play. I think the play was set up for Junior to drive and dish inside, kick it out, or take the shot, depending on how the defense responded. Looked to me like Junior just didn't make the best decision or the other options were well defended by Cuse.

I was in the "What the heck are we doing?" mode when I saw that.  Obviously a good thing I am not MU's coach, because it worked out great.  I think Syracuse could have and should have exploited that defense a lot more than they did.

At the time, I was freaking out about that. Out of both our final called offensive timeouts - that last one and one about 2-3 minutes before that if I recall correctly, the result was Junior on a suicide mission. Thought it was odd to call a timeout and see that, but I guess its hard to guess what might have been going on off the ball that was drawn up. I was pretty locked in on ball watching at that point.
