"We're still the better team," Jardine said. "We fought all season and we had a good season, and to go out like this is tough."

The scoreboard (TWICE this year!) begs to differ, Jardine!
Everything else aside (record, RPI, standings), its hard to make that argument when you lose to a team twice.
They are the better team at making the long face after a game with MU.
What a tool.
He isn't necessarily wrong--one game (even two games) isn't a big enough sample size to say definitively. There's a reason why all pro sports have multi-game series in the playoffs (with the exception of football, which wouldn't be practical).
That said, it's a pretty ballsy thing to say when you just got beat.
That's ok. Let them be "the better team." We are the only one of the two still playing. I'd much prefer that.
It's called being a sore loser. Scoop take your ball and go home now.
Hey Scoop Jardine.
1/29/11 - MU 76 - SU 70
3/20/11 - MU 66 - SU 62
HA... Its soo funny. I remember telling my friends that Jim Boehim is one of the worst sore losers in the game. What can you say... the players take the personality of the coach. Plain and simple.
I could care less what Scoop says. He's goin home and we are still dancin'!!!
Let him say whatever he wants...nobody will care what he says tomorrow, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday....until maybe November 2011. Seeya buddy.
used to live in Central NY and remember going to see Cuse a bunch, most of the locals thought Scoop couldnt make their high school teams...
that being said, Syracuse is actually a much better team than MU, too bad that doesnt mean SQUAT!
enjoy watching MU play in the sweet 16 on Friday night...
That attitude is the reason MU won both games this year...Syracuse probably thought they had both games won before the game started...
I was at Univ of Houston, when Phi Slamma Jamma, earned the distinction of the best team NOT to win the NCAA (We blowout Louisville in semis--lose to NC State in final)..
..Believe me, Scoop, your just driving the pain deeper---you need to congratulate the foe, and move on...its something you'll never get back,
...and forget that "we were the better team" stuff ---you're thinking its eases the pain now to think that, but in the long run, the same thought will magnify your regret and frustration.. Forgive yourself, and move on. kid.

PLENTY of posts here that are insistent that "THE 'CUSE" is the better team.
I mean, I could maybe - MAYBE - see someone making that argument with one loss in a poorly played game, but how exactly does one muster the audacity to say that after losing - not once - but TWICE to us.
Unreal!
Go Marquette!
Can't say I'm bothered either way. They can discuss it all week long while we prepare for the SWEET SIXTEEN!!!
They have 8 months to think about it. We owned them this year. Period.
bulls lost to the knicks twice this year. bulls are still better.
but who gives a crap what cuse fans think MARQUETTE SWEET 16 WOOT

haha I love it!
Winners walk. Losers talk.
lol Scoop Jardine
Actually other than 1 guy who said we are inferior most just say they are more talented while we were the better team and thats why we won
They do on the other hand believe that UNC will steam roll us
When you win, say little. When you lose, say less
I'd agree, they are the better team. That's the beauty and the tragedy of the NCAA Tournament. It's not best of 7 or best of 5. It's not even best of 3. You need to bring it every night. Louisville probably beats Morehead State 90 times out of 100, but they didn't in the tournament. Syracuse finished higher than us in the conference, won more overall games, has more talent, but tonight they weren't the better team.
It happens. We've been on the short end of that equation in the past and unless we go on a UCLA like 88 game winning streak, we will be again. For now, just enjoying it.
we are not the better team on Friday either. They have better players and a better coach and they will get the benefit of the doubt from the officials. But we have enough talent to win and we might. That is why you play the games. Looking forward to Friday, and while we are at it looking forward to going to Syracuse and trying to get one on their home floor next year.
Though I wasn't explicit, I guess my sense of stunned amazement is more about the audacity and immaturity of this method of coping with the loss. I mean, I just couldn't ever see myself dealing with a loss like this by self-soothing with thoughts of my innate superiority, as (subjectively) true as I may think that to be.
Part of being a good player is having that heart and drive to compete in the biggest of games. Maybe we don't have the "talent" that other teams have, but I think our guys really have that motivation and drive to win these games that gives us a good chance vs. any team. I just like our style of play and Buzz's mentality. Even though he's pretty goofy, I think he really pumps these guys up more than some of the big name coaches do.

I linked to one thread. Though there is no tenable reason to do so, if you surf around a bit you'll see quite a few more.
Like I said, there's no actual reason to do so - we should all be celebrating our huge victory - but if you run out of reading material like I did and are still too jacked to sleep, you'll see what I mean.

Dead on. Right now, there are 16 teams in the country with a chance to win the national championship. Does that mean we have a 1/16 chance of winning the title? Does it even mean we have a 1% chance? I don't know. But I do know this: we have a better chance than Pittsburgh, Purdue, or Notre Dame. We have a better chance than 329 teams in the NCAA. And if we can win one more game, our odds effectively double. I'll say this. I'd rather be one of the 16 teams with a chance than one of the 329 without.
I think it all comes back to how your coach reacts to loss. Boeheim has always been known to be a sore loser, so his fans like his team just follow his lead. You know that had we lost this game, Buzz would have been gracious in defeat. And I think we follow his lead of humility.....most of the time, anyway.
Buzz is just a better person--there's no argument about that!
QuoteIt still sucks. And it really didnt have to be this way
well we just got beat by a team that has FOURTEEN losses on the year and is full of JUCOs.
we lost to a team that didnt even shoot 42 percent from the field.
we lost to a team DESPITE shooting FIFTY FIVE PERCENT from the field.
we lost to a team that essentially has one player on the squad that we would EVER recruit.
we lost to a team coached by curly.
Who is the one player that they would recruit?
Has to be Jimmy-though he's a JUCO, God forbid.Or DJO, same thing.
Scoop isn't even a real name.
Looks like they will have to wait til next year to prove it.....LOL......
They are the "better" team at making "excuses" and "whinning".....
The team and the alumni.....
Baby wanna suck your thumb......

I'm wondering the same thing... our 3 best players last night were all JUCO. DJO was the only heavily recruited JUCO among them. I don't see 'Cuse going after any of them!
HA HA, sour grapes...what a classy gorup they are. :P
Quotewe lost to a team that essentially has one player on the squad that we would EVER recruit.
Perhaps that's the problem.

Exactly. They might be the better team, but we were the better team last night. That's all that matters.
