Doesn't really seem condescending to me.  It's exactly how Buzz would describe himself.

I agree.  I read some comments about it first and then read it expecting it to be negative/condescending.  Maybe the negative anticipation is my reason, but I thought it was a decent article.  Perhaps it was the Curly references that made people feel that way, but that plays into what Buzz is all about.

Not my take at all....I read it as "don't underestimate this man" as he's been to the depths and realizes not only how fortunate he is to be a head coach in the Big East, but that he has proven he belongs so far.

Great article.

I find this condescending....

If there are college basketball coaches who seem to have stepped out of GQ (and there are), this is one who appears to have slept in his car (and he has). The sideline set does have its fine cutlery, but here and there it has its plastic utensils, too. And Buzz Williams, who runs the Marquette Golden Eagles, is pretty much a spork with a voice that can sound like a faulty muffler.

He looks like he belongs behind a wheelbarrow or a deli counter or a mug of beer, not in front of a college basketball bench in the NCAA Tournament.

Did you finish reading the article?

Quote"We'll have our hands completely full," Williams admitted, "from the beginning."

And so, too, will the Orange. Buzz is a funny dude, sure. But he only looks like Curly Howard.

Big difference there.

Context is important.

I completely disagree with you regarding the article being condescending.  However, I completely agree with your sentiment regarding the Syracuse!  :)

To the article's author:
...." You know Gentlemen--you yearn for victory, just as I do, but to be achieved with the effortlessness of the gods. Yours are the archaic values of the Prep School playground. You deceive no one but yourselves. I beleive in the relentless pursuit of excellence---and I'll carry the future with me!!..."

Gentlemen.....You may say the Orange are world beaters, but I beleive in Mssrs Butler, Crowder, and Odom, we'll have their match...and now its off to the games

Not sure why you reacted that way either.  I thought it was right on especially sice it was written by the press that covers our opponent.

Buzz puts himself down, but we all know he is a smart guy who is just humble.  But come on, this article goes way to far with the put downs, regardless of the conclusion.  Buzz looks and dresses the part.  He would be the best dressed deli counter guy I've ever encountered.  Maybe I need to move to Syracuse.
