It seems some of us like scrutinizing other forums, so I found a few comments from the XU game thread enjoyable.
"Only down six. Thankfully it seems Marquette kind of stinks. I think we'll make a nice run on these clowns."
"Marquette is not a good defensive team. This is just us sucking."
"Holloway NOT getting the hip checks fouls. "
"The refs need to swallow these whistles a little on these ticky and-ones for Marquette. We're making no contact, but they're getting the whistle."
"The thing is, if we were in the Big East this year, we'd dominate it."
a couple of legit comments:
"What a crappy performance. I hate to say it. Not only were we outplayed, but we were outcoached."
"Marquette is doing a really nice job guarding our ball screens. Everytime Tu comes off a pick there is a Marquette defender waiting for him."
"The thing is, if we were in the Big East this year, we'd dominate it."

Can you provide a link to their board?

Maybe the Women's and even then I think UConn is the favorite.

LOL...oh that's too good.
X OUT.
X gonna give it to ya...
Sure did. Thanks for the W.
On to the the next one! GTST!
We have beaten them twice in 2 years and played a significantly harder schedule than they. Still, I see posters on their board thinking that this is the one time out of ten that we would have won the game.
I don't recall them missing shots or us really draining shots we should not have. We are just flat out better than they are. There really is no question. We win the Jesuit battle, hands down.

I agree. Put them in the BE and I think they have a hard time getting in the tourney. Maybe I'm a bit biased like they are though ;)

Our all time record in the MU vs Xavier series is now 46(MU)-15(X)...but the fans believe they'd win 9 out of ten meetings between us--wow
"The thing is, if we were in the Big East this year, we'd dominate it." this...during a blowout loss to the 11th BE team into the Tourney....wow
Our MU board has many pessimistic worriers, but theirs, eggs savior, has some with delusional optimism/overstatement/hyperbole.
....which do you prefer--lol?
I'm surprised that Xavier guy beat Willie Wampum to that quote. I believe Willie really does believe Xavier would have dominated the Big East this year, and tonight was just a fluke. He said, "Give me an NCAA win and I'm happy, regardless of how painful the game was to watch," but his first two posts after the game are criticizing Buycks and the Big East.
Willie - do you think maybe you can stop dwelling on the play you didn't like in the Louisville game? It really doesn't matter - in case you missed it, Louisville was sitting at home watching Marquette on TV because they are out of the tournament. Buycks was our starting point guard last night and against a pretty good press had 2 turnovers. Junior had 3 and DJO had 5. I'm sure you will go back to campus to find more students who agree with you that Buzz isn't a good coach - as you've asserted you've done in a past post, but it's got to be lonely for you know that nomorebuycks and buycks**cks have long ago left embarrassed.
Part of the problem is that they overrate the A10. The A10 is good at the top, but it is really a pile of crap after that. I mean, Duquesne finished fourth in the conference this year. Maybe it was just down this year, but the 15-1 record IMO was pretty inflated.

extreme delusion. after the loss they were saying that they should be in the top 10 for preseason polls next year because no team will even compare to their starting 5. Also if anyone has some extra $ laying around put it on X...they are a lock for the final 4
I say take the high road, I found some very complimenting posts as well on their boards, people who actually sounds like they know something about basketball and a Jesuit mission. Not exactly sure what a Jesuit battle is either, but I don't think that belongs to any Jesuit school.
"Congrats. They brought their A game. They brought intensity. They finished around the basket. They hustled on defense. Their continuous cutting offense confused Xavier. The better team in this game was Marquette and they deserved to advance."
"You hit it all. My respect levels for Marquette and Buzz Williams sky rocketed after tonight. They do it right. It would be awesome if we could somehow start a series with them, especially if Buzz returns. I wish we broght the toughness that they did."
"They were the better team on the floor tonight. I wish them nothing but the best as they continue on through the tournament. When all else fails, cheer Jesuit."
"I agree with this. It's hard not to like Marquette. They play hard, their coach seems like a class act and they're a fellow Jesuit school."
Xavier in the BE would result in trips to the NIT. Having one great player and a short bench will never cut it in a conference as deep as MU. Xavier played two BE teams this year and lost by a total of 29 points.
this is to all the x zavier fans reading our board. nice game ladies ;D
Way to stay classy guys..
I would have been all Xavier if they won. And if you don't think some of our fans can be delusional at times, just go back and read some of the pre-season expectations for our team. ::)
Congrats to Xavier on a great season. Definitely had its highs and lows. Leave the vitriol for the L-Villes of this world.
We played a good first game, and now can play loose against Syracuse. The only bad part of beating Xavier, is that I can't pull for Xavier in the tourni. Xavier is one of my favorite teams to pull for in the tourni, right up there with Gonzaga. But, the better team won. I don't think it was Xavier having an off night, I think it was Marquette forcing Xavier into an off night.
I agree it was a choking defense that caused them to take bad shots . Good game plan well executed by Marquette frustrated them. I mentioned on another thread that the announcers commented on how well Buycks was playing. No more negatives on the man. please.
If X had won I would be cheering for them the rest of the tourney.
I'm happy that we won, but us Jesuit school folks should stick together. We've been in their shoes plenty of times, losing to a significantly lower seed that was underseeded to begin with.
At least X has Sweet 16 berths to cushion their early exit this year. MU has a lot to prove with regards to the claim that we're an elite level team still.
The vitriol aimed at the X fans venting their frustration on their own forums is unwarranted. I'd love to play them every year, because I'd bet that it'd end up being an evenly matched series that would renew our rivalry.
geez, i guess you're just gonna find all kinds out there, aren't ya? a couple of responding posts having a little fun and ya got the high roadies-that's fine, but when we want to have a little fun the stiff ones come in with their white collars on...suddenly. my word to the hallway monitors-let yer hair down once and giggle a little bit sometime. don't lower the bar on vitriole, if we wanted vitrole, watch the union thugs boycotts and death threats, that's vitriole
I don't think you can make any conclusions how Xavier would do in the Big East based on one game against one Big East team. We match up very well with Xavier. The A10 is now 2-1 in the NCAA Tournament. We all know we match up well with certain teams (West Virginia, for example) but don't with other teams (Cinci, for example). Maybe (and I don't know, just saying) Xavier matches up very well with Georgetown better than we did.
Again, there is no doubt that we are the better team than Xavier, but that doesn't mean that they would finish 12th or worse in the Big East. We went 2-0 against West Virginia this year but they finished 7th while we finished 11th.

I'd be cheering for X as well, always do, and understand the venting after a loss.
But vitriol is entirely warranted for those fans - and I would guess it's a minority - refusing to give MU any credit and, to the contrary, essentially saying "Marquette sucks and got lucky."
F--- them and the musketeer they rode in on. MU spanked Xavier last night and there's nothing we saw to indicate MU couldn't or wouldn't do it again to them. Xavier is a good team and excellent program, but they lost to the better team last night.
And could you point out for me who's claiming MU is an "elite level team?"
You beat me to it Pakuni.

Anyone that starts talking about the fact that we've been in 6 straight NCAA tourneys? Or that we're top 11 in tourney appearances all time?

Huh?
So making the true statement about six straight tournament appearances = "we're elite"?
Wow ... that's quite a stretch you're making.
Indeed. Elite programs win in the tournament.
We are an elite program.

It's the stating of half-truths to puff fans up.
6 straight tournaments with what, 2 wins? Top 11 in tournament births all time but with 1 championship to show for our efforts.
I'm not making a stretch, I'm explaining a comment that you're picking out that was part of a larger post. Are you really bored enough to argue about something so silly? :P

Agreed. MU and Gonzaga only Jesuit schools left standing.
Georgetown and St. Peter's went down...
Trash Talk - good.
Vitriol - bad.
I know some X guys and they're OK. Plus I have that Jesuit brotherhood sympathy going also.
But I get what you're saying about getting some shots in. Now if we had beaten L-Ville or ND yesterday, I'd be all over that!

Right. Kudos to all the X fans that gave credit, but hence the topic was to share some of the comical posts I read, and I'm glad that some more positive posts were shared as well.
