Title: Erik Williams....nice job
Post by: ChicosBailBonds on March 18, 2011, 09:18:22 PM
Hit that first shot to get us going.  Had a nice 3 point play later.  My biggest concern was getting behind these guys and having the Ohio State and other Ohio fans get behind XU.  Nice ball game for Williams and way to start the team out on a solid note.

5 points, couple of boards, 2 of 3 from the field.

Jimmy was great...played like a senior.  Crowder nice job and great shooting by DJO.

Our guards, though...ugh...10 turnovers between DJO, JC and DB....must get better.

I was thinking the whole time...why isn't Erik getting a few more minutes?  He did move off his man a couple times that cost a basket once (maybe twice) but overall played well.  Didn't someone say Williams starting is so Jae doesn't pick up an early foul?

I'm happy he's picking things up slowly, because with extended minutes he could be a contributor.  :)

EWILL was all over the place when he was on the floor.  The future for this kid look brighter and brighter each time he plays.

Dude can rebound. He'll be a solid contributor next year. And I agree, great game Erik.

He's still a little slow (or completely lost) on some rotations.  But he clearly has confidence offensively.

Erik Williams could pass for a kgb agent in 1960's USSR.  The dude's demeanor and facial expressions never change!

It looks like he can get up and is more attentive to rebounds. Two thumbs for the kid tonight

Nicely done #12.

Williams definitely played great. Junior had another one of those "what the hell is he doing" games.

Proof that Buzz Williams is staying at Marquette: Vander Blue played significant minutes.

Erik is a very good player on the offensive end. If he ever gets it on defense look out.

#12 can rebound and I like rebounders.

The bench shortens during tourney time....but next year...as Dicky V would say E Williams  deserves, and will improve with PT BABY!

My daughter went to Cy Springs high, in CFISD,  when Karon Bradley was there, and I saw E Williams (also from CySprHS), a number of times. In a good Houston high school district, E Williams was an absolute beast. He is capable of taking over a game. He deserves much affirmative support and self confidence building, and maybe needs it, a little more than Karon (who was less sensitive).  A really good kid.
Go Panthers!!!

Erik's slash to the basket was a thing of beauty!  I loved it and he got the basket and the foul and the ft.  He is extemelyt athletic.  His defense was not the best, but it wasn't bad either.  He came to double team and freed a man uip - but this team doe s that 10 times a game.

This was a rgeat game for Erik - I loved what I saw in him.  Way to go Erik!

I saw EWill a number of times also. it seems he has major skills but is more passive than he should be. One game last year he was challenged by his coach at halftime and responded with something like 30 points in the 2nd half. Next year he can either remain passive or believe in himself and become a warrior. I expect the latter.

I agree with all of the sentiment above. Just wish he would have gotten more time during the season to show what he could do. Glad Buzz started giving him some playing time at the end os the season.

Not to jump too far ahead, but I am really excited about next year's team as well.  Losing JFB is huge, but with the development of Williams (it seems like something has clicked since he's been starting...at least most of the time) and Wilson on the floor, I really like our team.  Let's get at least a Sweat 16 this year and really kick this team into gear.  The way Buzz is recruiting, I love our future (since I'm sure that Buzz will be here to guide it).

I feel the same way. They aren't all 'there' yet, but...

Otule is sooo much better defensively now, foul trouble regardless. He's insanely better and quicker than Gardner.

Junior has his confidence back and knows now that he can penetrate and dish if he just does it. Also, now that he gets to the line enough, we can see he's really not a 40% free throw shooter and that was all due to lack of attempts.

Erik played w/a ton of energy tonight and has since being a starter. Even if he's the 6th or 7th guy off the pine next year, we are going to need valuable minutes from him and he seems to be 'getting it'.

Vander will be fine, I think. He doesn't need to avg 20 ppg. That's not his game. He needs to play solid D, run the O and have the ability to knock down outside shots when open....which with work in teh offseason should improve.

Great, great win tonight for the program considering this is a down year.

The guards and Jimmy were excellent, but this was a close game if not for the frontcourt bench. Fulce, Erik, and Big Smoove all played great minutes. When Jae and Chris both went out with fouls in the first half, things could have gotten away. Instead they extended the lead. Fulce takes a huge charge and Davante was making Frease work for everything.

Understated statistically, but those three had a huge role in the win.

Erick played great.  Looks solid.  Need him to step up with more confidence to attack the ball.

That three pointer almost went in as well. We need that from him on Sunday.

Remarkable game vs Syracuse. I'm still trying to decide on the trip to Newark. Went to San jose last year and still licking my wounds. What are your plans for game vs NC?

I have only been through Newark as my layover, on Continental flights to Europe. I have no plans to go there, for the game--in the words of SNL's Gov. Patterson....its New Jersey.

However, My brother, with Channel 2, is working on Final 4 press access, at Reliant Stadium--so, if  you see a guy wearing an MU shirt, pretending to be a KPRC reporter, ...we got in!!! lol

It's always good to have a bro in the biz. I think if all goes well, we can compete with UNC. However, OSU seems so much better that I just don't think we can get into the final four. But if the impossible dream happens, it'll be a memorable week. I understand there are about 500 MU grads in town.
