Title: Tom Crean as an analyst.
Post by: Hards Alumni on March 18, 2011, 06:28:18 PM
Is a natural.  Gotta give the guy credit.  I may not care for him, but when he gets fired from IU he should do this.

Back handed compliment success!

dwight burke is ripping him on twitter right now

Quote

  • Hold up...is that Tom Crean I see on TruTV?
  • I'm gonna refrain from commenting about that guy...smh
  • is it fair to say the sky is blue lol? >>> RT @lj854: @Dburke_EFS Fair to say Buzz > Crean?
  • BUT...in my opinion, there was ALOT of things behind the scenes that went unseen or said that I'd say made things uneasy

Joni should recommend a hair coloring scheme with a more natural look.  His hair is so obviously colored.  I'm not a Crean hater by any means, but this was the first thing I thought of when I saw him.  I mean jeeeze, Tom, for as much money as you make, go with some quality.

Agree that he is a natural as a commentator.

I hear he's got 2,000 answers for every question.

Actually I thought he was terrible (and I'm not a hater).  He isn't personable at all and comes off as a big douche.

Did he take credit for the MU win yet?  Something along the line of "I hired Buzz Williams," or "I recruited Chris O'Tule."

No mention of MU on TBS halftime show. Bummer. I was interested to see what Crean had to say.

Tan Tommy talked about MU during the halftime of the Indy State/Syracuse Game.

He was very clinical talking about the game.  Rattled off a bunch states and noted their good D on Holloway.  Unemotional as if he was talking about some team he had no attachment too.

Seth Greenberg then talked about them and mentioned Crean coached their and hired Buzz.  Then Gottlieb said MU was undersized and scrappy and lacked a true post presence.  I guess someone gave him last year stat sheet or he just dissed Outle.

This guy is right on top of things.

Nice win Marquette.....    yep, I am a bit surprised Tommy has not taken credit for the big win also.  At least he has stopped twittering about how successful he was at Marq.    That chit got old...

Actually I am shocked this man who has won 28 games the last 3 years, and 8 in Conf. was even asked to participate as an analyst.   Oh well, it's not like IU BB doesn't have issues to deal with.

I did get a kick out of the Tom Arnold picture comparisons yesterday...    hehe.,..    Tom did not appreciate that segment much.

Oh well, only 7 more years to go ......    :-\

Good luck Marq......

Equally amazed at his on-camera performance.

Though I expected nothing less than a penguin clapping performance.

Speaking of which, he should've mentioned his Grammy for his sampled performance on John Fogerty's "Centerfield."

Trust me, the Tom Crean apolagist crowd is growing thinner by the minute.

I read that thread.  Did Seth Davis really say that Wade wasn't a Top 600 recruit out of high school?  Is that true?

In a pre-XU game studio session Friday afternoon, I heard him bemoan that he lost a couple of LOIs because of his predecessor's departure. On MU, he was complimentary, saying DJO was as quick as Tu Holloway, among other positive things.

Bob Gibbons had him top 100.  Others didn't have him in the top 250.

That was an interesting little interview seeing TC talking about MU and D Wade.

I couldn't help feeling that TC was feeling a bit awkward about it.

It's no more shocking than Matt Millen in the NFL studio every Sunday. Both poor decisions by the producers or whoever arranges these things.

I can't stand Crean, but I thought he was pretty decent in the studio.

With that said, Martelli (sp?) from St. Joe's blows him away. He could make a ton of money for a long, long time on TV.

I just read that Indiana thread and I'm a little confused.  Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I swear Wade played at Marquette right?

Martelli has been a huge personality for a long time. He will be at St. Joe's in some capacity until the day he dies. I am sure of that.

I never really listened to annything Crean had to say, but he is way to ugly and there is not enough cover up out there for him to sit behind that desk for a long period of time.

lifehouse... I was thinking the same thing.  You could have sworn he played for Indiana the way they were talking about wade

I wondered if he would put anything on his Twitter to congratulate MU as he did last year when they made the tourney, but he didn't.  I suppose it makes sense because these are all Buzz's players this year whereas Zar, Mo, and Cubi played for Crean.  I'm not passing judgment at all- and I don't think he has any obligation to acknowledge MU, but I was just curious since he did it last year.

Does anyone know when Indiana plans to retire Wade's jersey?  Or maybe they can have a Wade bobble-head night next year, with the figurine just wearing IU shorts and a plain t-shirt.

If Tom Crean is so great at analyzing NCAA Tournament teams, why can't he do that in his day job?
