Is everyone here a little less optimistic going into this tournament than the last 5?
Between the 14 loses, pg play, DJO consistency, FT shooting, closing out games and now the coaching talk, I think I'm more prepared for a bad showing tomorrow than in years past. I'm hoping for the best, but I'm feeling my Denny Green quotes might make an appearance tomorrow night.
we might not win but there won't be a bad showing.
it's kind of nice to be the underdog for once, the last few years we've been the 6-7 matched up with a tough 10-11 seed. could be fun to play with nothing to lose...
I think MU wins two games this weekend. Just got a good feeling this year...tough draw of course, but these guys have played top notch teams all year and been right there. They finally get over the hump in the NCAA's.

I hope you're right, but I felt the same way last year. I want to get past the first one before I even think about Syracuse. And Syracuse flat out terrifies me.
I been drinking since about 10am, so I am wicked optimistic!

Nice, but are you still at Marquette? If so what happened to the 6AM start on St. Paddys day?
I feel more optimistic. Like Coach Buzz's use of the deep bench recently. I can see an unexpected hero Friday like JC performed against WV.
I don't anticipate any alcohol consumption until tipoff. :(

Nah, relocated to Boston after graduation in 2003...St. Paddy's is a city holiday out here...technically "Evacuation Day", always seems to land on March 17th though ;)

I am not as confident because they have less talent and because I jet the feel Buzz is about to leave the program.

Just because Ziggy at your day job, and the chief jizz mopper at Bean Snappers doesn't give you off St. Pat's Day, is no reason to get mad me.

Agreed, don't forget Bunker Hill Day and Patriots Day. And if you don't support these days, you hate freedom and the USA.
I see the game tomorrow roughly how the odds makers do, Xavier should be the favorite, but only a slight favorite. So i'd put the odds on Xavier winning at roughly 55/45.
I'll be surprised if say 4-5 minutes are left in the game that either team has more than a 6-7 point lead.
That said, after so many years of watching us lose heartbreaking close games in the Tournament, i'm conditioned to expect the worse in really close games. I'd probably rather see us lose by 10-12 points than see us lose another game in the last 20 seconds.
It's just easier for me to move on from losses of sports teams i cheer for when the other team wins convincingly because i can say, the clearly better team won today. Really close losses stick with me though, especially close losses decided in the last few seconds. Those can be very painful.
I am excited and confident. Headed to Schoolyard after work. Got $50 on the game. I am gonna have a blast. If ya haven't been to Schoolyard for a Tourney game, all I will say is that it is as close as it gets to being at the game. Everyone has their game face on watching the game.

See you there. Pretty damn excited. Its a great atmosphere.
Jay Bilas (who I think is the best analyst on ESPN) just said MU v X game was going to be the most competitive tomorrow... HERE'S TO A BAD NIGHT'S SLEEP AND NOT GETTING ANYTHING DONE TOMORROW.
I'm optimistic for tomorrow, not as much for Sunday.
Oh...and Buzz isn't going anywhere.
I think we show up tomorrow and get beat by 10+ on Sunday.
The thing is, I wouldn't be upset with that, for the first time in 6 straight appearances. My expectations are low.
I was extremely optomistic earlier in the week. All this Buzz to ? talk has me a little concerned. Do the guys hear it, feel it? and will it impact them? The fact they left town on Tuesday may be a plus in that regard. But this reminds me of the distraction that Mike Holmgren became during the Super Bowl against Denver. Hope I am wrong and they come out with a chip on their shoulders. Definitely a winable game and a team that we match up well against.
Marquette will win. It will be a tough game. But the players will really play their hearts out. Xavier won't know what hit them! Go MU!
Low optimism. We're the quintessential Washington Generals team. We'll give Xavier a good run, and Jay Bilas can say it was a hard fought game, but in the end, the Globetrotters pull it out like they always do.
We've seen this movie before.
More confident. This season few teams scare me. It is down year across the board and 20 teams or more capable to sneak into FF.

willie? is that you?
Both Atlantic 10 teams won yesturday. Assuming we lose to Xavier that would make the Atlantic 10 3-0 in the first round. You could then assume we would have finished no better than fourth in Atlantic 10 and not even got an NCAA bid. The size of the Big East may actually be hiding how weak we are.

Don't follow that logic. We lost to UCONN at home, so you could assume we would lose to UCONN on the road. One game does not translate the way you would like it to be. If we win, does that mean we would win the A10 Regular Season and Conference Tournament?

It's just a way of being pessimistic and denigrating the program. Pretty common around here.
More optimistic than in years past for some reason. I think it's a game we can get. Worried about Syr though now that Fab seems to have awakened.

That's about right. I'm tired of hearing MU as "the little team that could" in March. For once I'd like to hear them as "the team that did."
This is the first time I can remember since I've watched MU that I'm not excited about a tourney game. And I hate that.
Most responses in this thread sound like everyone is having a no good, very bad day. Its march, we're dancing. Save the sad posts for when we actually lose a game... not pregame.

Plus it's Friday. Basketball alllll weekend! :D
Optimistic that MU wins a nail biter today. I refuse to think of any games beyond today, this is the only one that matters.

Or we've been fans of MU for 20+ years and seen the movie over and over and over again.
Marquette by 8+ today.
Close one on Sunday, but we beat SU by a few.
So we advance further this year than we have since 2003.
Book it.
(How's that for optimism?).

Fans are supposed to support their team. A bunch of whining on the day of the biggest game of the year is pathetic. Be confident. Bitch if/when they lose. That's what real fans do. But, you'll give some "stop being a fanboy" response, as usual.

Agree to disagree.
The question was how optimistic are you.
I fully support the team, does that mean that I think we will win every game?
uh uh.

I am pretty optimistic. But even if I weren't, I wouldn't come on here and say "oh, they'll lose. Same old song and dance." More like, it'll be a tough match up for us tonight, hope we can keep it close and have a chance to win it in the last few minutes.
uh uh.
Boldfaced Bee Gee's references:
"You should be dancin' - - - Yeah!"
"Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother, you'll be stayin' alive, stayin' alive"
John Travolta loves MU!

Sugarcoat it, but that doesn't change how you feel ;)
Optimism turning to frustration...my PC catching a virus has me checking out 'Scoop on the girlfriend's laptop as I hope I can fix this problem myself. But the frustration of my PC suddenly becoming useless has me getting irritated in general, which does my hopes of an MU win no good. Need to get my PC fixed, then get out of the house so I can watch the game in peace.

I support this team, I said I thought we will win today...isn't that being optimistic? That doesn't make me any less of a fan. Are Raiders fans not loyal because they know they aren't going to the Super Bowl each year? Please.
MU fans have seen their team go to the Sweet 16 twice in 25 years, there's a reason I said we've seen this movie over and over again...the movie is called Historical Reality and it's rated PG-13. Ask mom if you can get an adult to accompany you to see it. ;)
I'll worry about Sunday after today. I think we might have a shot on Sunday, but I wouldn't call anyone out here that says we're going to lose because that's going to be the conventional wisdom.

First of all, I wasn't even referring to you to begin with. You just respond to everyone as if they are speaking to you.
Pretty funny you think I am a kid. A 13 year old would be at school right now, no? Just another example of your douchebaggery.
Would love to see Crowder turn into the "beast" that he was in January. If he plays with intensity Marquette will win!

I blame my girlfriend on this one. Crowder's her favorite player. But she hasn't watched a game since the Seton Hall one at home. We were on vacation when his slump started against UConn, she was sick on Senior Night, and worked during the SHU finale and throughout the Big East tournament. Told her tonight when she left for work that she should call in sick because I didn't think Crowder would perform if she wasn't watching. Hope he finds a way...but if we advance, she's watching Sunday no matter what.
Scheduling a vacation day for next week to watch MU in the sweet 16
Time to come together. We ALL are optimistic, just to different degrees. Even you pessimists are holding out some hope.
LET'S GO MARQUETTE!!!
At this moment I am very happy.
A bunch of teams already are out of the tournament, ....this year we are ALREADY in the "second" round.
TGIF, ...playing late on friday makes you feel "in it" a few hours longer, and already "superior" to those that have lost.
Hows that for optimism?
I hope you negative nancies feel stupid when we finish out this W. Go MU!!!!
When e Williams scores I am very confident. But this second half run for Xavier is threatening. I'm prepared with the defibulator as always. Any lead is not safe. Go Marquette! -- from the bar in the United Center if anyone is here.
I agree especially if Vander takes another shot like that WTF???
Up 18 with 13 minutes to go, I was optimistic. Now fairly. Need to step on the throats.

Way to blow it $(#]stick
Gotta get Gardner out of there and go a bit smaller. Their offense rest of the way is Holloway driving looking to draw contact.
With about 15 left I told my buddy "first team to 60 wins". Still like our odds. Ring out Ahoya!
Real key point coming up. MU on mini run, Xavier time out. Minute and a half to go until the under 4 time out, MU needs to stay up double digits to the under 4 timeout.
I feel good about Sunday regardless of who we play. Really liked our play and liked our body language better. That was a confident bunch tonight. Kick some ass on Sunday.

It may have taken 34 games, but we saw the fruits of all that frustration tonight. They were outstanding.
I'm more than happy to eat crow on this one. It's not Friday anymore, so it's allowed.
