Title: Something has changed
Post by: madtownwarrior on March 15, 2011, 09:54:14 PM
Buzz March 2010:

"Here's the thing: My title has changed. My W-2 has changed. But my heart hasn't changed," he said. "This is a business that's full of egos, full of media-savvy people, full of exposure, full of money, and a lot of time that changes people. I don't want my title, I don't want my income to ever change who I am.

"I understand the evolution of how coaches change and how the media and the power hungriness of it all changes people. But I refuse to let it change me. I know I'll get older and I'll handle it better, I hope, but I don't ever want to change what I believe in my heart to be right.

"I'll be here as long as they'll have me here."

Buzz March 2011:

I don't read that stuff. I know that it's going on," he said. "This is not to dodge any question; I think that I am the most accessible and honest coach that there is, and that's what I want to be about. But I do think that it's unfair for me to make it about me relative to all the work that we have done and that our kids have done. I would rather the attention be on them.

"I think that's the way that it should be. And I don't think there's any right or wrong way to answer a question, but I do think that it's always right to make sure that the players are first. Considering that it was probably perceived that I couldn't coach six weeks ago, nobody ever asked me, 'Can you coach?' So now, somebody on the Internet says I can coach, now everybody wants to say, 'Well, where are you going to coach?'

"I think my track record relative to who I am speaks for itself. That's not to be arrogant; that's just what I believe to be true. Six weeks ago nobody in the world thought that we would be playing in the NCAA Tournament. So I would appreciate -- you're doing your job; I'm doing mine -- that all of the focus be on our guys.

"I'm not reading the Internet. I'm not reading Todd's stuff, I'm not doing Facebook. Not Twittering. I'm just a country kid from a little small town, and I don't think you have to do all that."

His answer didn't work to quiet the rumors last spring, so this year he is not even going to address it.

Image wasn't showing up, so I grabbed it for you, because I COULD NOT BE IN MORE COMPLETE AGREEMENT, JJJJJ.  SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TIRED.  MOVE ON, and take your speculative DERP elsewhere.   There's a game on Friday.  Buzz isn't going anywhere.

Oh, and let's take some more quotes completely out of context to make a specious point:

lab_warrior, 8:30am, March 14:  "I think I'll have eggs for breakfast."

lab_warrior, 8:30am, March 15:  "I think I'll have cereal for breakfast."

SOMETHING HAS CHANGED!  OOGA BOOGA!!!  OOOOOOOH!!!  LOUD NOISES!!!

"Oh, and let's take some more quotes completely out of context to make a specious point:"

Really - you think something was taken out of context.  Same question by the same reporter to the same coach, one year later.

Last year he says "I am here as long as they will have me"   This year he is talking in circles, brining up 6 weeks ago people said he can't coach, saying the focus should be the players..."

Bet he is gone, I guess we will see soon enough...  ..

I thought he was gone after the Providence (BET) presser.  However, I couldn't find the link to that anywhere.  I only heard a bit of it on Homer's postgame.

The more I think about this, the dumber this post becomes. On the day he was hired, Buzz was adamant that the program was going to be about the players. Now going into the freakin' NCAA tournament, he answers a question by saying he wants this week to be about the players, and people choose to take that as some sort of non-denial. Pathetic.

Times change and Oklahoma is stuck in NCAA sanctioned wasteland, Missouri is a nice school, but is it really a step up?, and Texas Tech is a step down from Marquette.

MU has a ton of money and the Big East. As long as those two factors stay in place, there aren't many schools that can compete with MU. Remember, it took Indiana to pry TC loose.

+1,000,000

Clearly the fact that we got stood up at the prom 3 years ago, has a lot of people on edge (and to an extent, rightfully so).  Let's focus on this weekend, and everything will sort itself out.  I believe that Buzz is committed to the players and this program.

I just want to point out that Oklahoma didn't fire Capel for his lack of recruiting.  This move makes almost zero sense for them as Buzz's best attribute is that he can recruit.

And Texas Tech and Arkansas???  I understand he's form Texas but that program is in ruins and Arkansas hasn't had a top flight program since Corliss.  Maybe Im being naive but I think this is all junk.  Now if Rick Barnes were to be fired for some odd reason, I would be concerned

the Big East cuts both ways. It is great exposure for the University. It is a death march for coaches.

I agree...I would think the only risk is Arkansas but I believe that to be a big risk.

Especially if they don't get Anderson.
