Title: Critics sit in silence tonight
Post by: Doris Burkes Thong on March 10, 2011, 12:01:01 AM
They know who they are. Funny they don't even have it in them to give one compliment to the team tonight. Instead they wait for their opportunity to see if MU loses tomorrow night to make their entrance.

I was thinking the same thing.  There are several individuals who post ever 30 seconds when MU loses but are amazingly quiet when we win.

Exactly, they're a bunch of little biotches who just like to stir things up and cut MU down in subtle ways.

No, not referring to you at all. You're a good fan...nothing wrong with venting. It's just the people that continue to take shots at MU and can never see one good word when they get a "W".

I doubt you're talking about me, but either way I DVR'd the game and just finished watching it.  Great game!  Junior was AMAZING.  Loved it!  Keep it up!

Winning cures what ails ya. If mu takes care of Louisville I'll be walking on air Friday!

If not, are you going to call for the search committee to start looking for a new coach as you stated just a few days ago.

Doris, I think I may have been in the group you are addressing in this post. If so, I'm honored and appreciate the fact that you read my postings. If not, well, I'll only be a little shamed!

For the record, I haven't posted because I went to bed after the game. Period. I was excited by the game and glad to be wrong, to your point. I hope I continue to be wrong about this team and Coach Buzz in the coming weeks. I also hope that even though I have at times critical, I want Buzz and the team to make me eat EVERY negative post I made in this blog. They can do that by keeping up what they have done the past two nights.

Given the beauty and youthfulness of the person in your photo, I'm guessing Doris that I was living and dying with the Warriors before you were born. I was one of the thousands out on Wisconsin Avenue in the rain on that wonderful night in Marquette history when Bo and Butch (and Jerome and Ulice and Jimmy and Bill and BT etc) cut down the nets in Atlanta! I'm hoping before I face St. Petey to enjoy such a moment again.

That said, here are my thoughts from last night.

1) Junior and Vander are my two favorite Warriors. There's a reason for that. Jimmy, Jae and Chris, I love you man, but these two are the future of our team. They both were highly sought after recruits with much talent. I thought Junior "took one for the team" last year by coming back early from his achilles injury and his 15 points last night, if they are the beginning of a trend, are the first real signs that these recruits will be something special. As far as Vander goes, he needs to succeed if we're to be a powerhouse. Rooting against Vander, or expecting Jordanesque play his freshman year, is just stupid. He's an 18-year-old and as I have said many times, Al had it right, "the best thing about freshmen is they become sophomores."

2) Something has happened from the regular season. What I liked about last night was that we put two high-quality games together, back to back. Both Providence and the Thuggiebear pushed us -- the thuggiebear and his band of hoodlems actually having a double digit lead. We came back against a quality opponent, which is something we really have not done much of this year. We were confident and assertive, which is something else we haven't seen in close games. Maybe there was something in the New Jersey water that Buzz drank after the Seton Hall game. Or maybe Buzz has been reading too much MU SCOOP! I really don't care but something changed after the Seton Hall game and whatever it is, I like it!

That said, as I have noted several times when I criticized Buzz or the Warriors, I hope I am wrong. In fact, I want Buzz to be Coach of the Year soon and Vander or Junior to be Player of the Year. Go for it guys!

I was wondering about this...actually, I think that we simply had a bad week. The Cincy game on Senior Night was a bit crushing, as we were riding a 3-win high. They put on the press, handcuffed us, and it really looked like we just weren't expecting it. Seton Hall...well...that was their Super Bowl, if you will. Senior Night, they came to play, and like they did against SJU a few nights before, shot out of their minds. Two losses we should have had, but I'll chalk it up to a bad week. We've won 5 out of 7 and with a win tonight can be the kind of team that will come into the NCAAs as one of the buzz teams people are all talking about. The combination of playing such stylish basketball to go along with those sexy uniforms can only be good for the program. Here's hoping Buzz can win at least this many games in the Big Dance so some of those recruits out there considering Marquette can see just how good it could go for them.

I'm actually an alum, a lifelong fan who's been going to games since he was four, and a former team aide when I was a senior...

I just like pissing people off...

I'm just a realist and just because they beat an overrated west va team doesn't mean they are great. This Louisville game is pathetic. Defense is overrated.
