Title: Gardner Line
Post by: willie warrior on March 09, 2011, 06:01:00 AM
Ox had a good line--17 minutes, 9 points, 7 rebounds and an assist.

Both he and Otule are coming along nicely. Now if Buzz can figure out how to get Gardner in only on offense and Otule on defense, or to clone the two, we will be set.

Yes those two have improved the most over the year. Wish Fat Albert could jump a little though.

If ever there was time to recruit a 7' project with the intent to red-shirt him, this is the time.   They both looked good last night, but Providence isn't good.    Hope their legs are there tonight.

I am very happy to see Gardner, Blue, Jones and Williams really starting to exude confidence and play well. Gardner played great. I continue to love my Jerrod Lovette comparison. The guy doesn't look like much, but he just knows what to do with the ball around the basket, pulls down rebounds and makes his FT's. Should continue to improve just as Lovette did. Blue pulled down a bunch of rebounds and continues to look better out there (he is really an explosive athlete). Williams fired up 4 shots. Only one went in, but it is great to see him taking them. Jones drilled a three from the corner...and didn't do much else, but he is playing with plenty of confidence.

If those guys can continue to fill roles it is a real positive.

Lovette was a pretty good big for MU--too bad he had personal problems/illness. He ran the floor well and had a soft touch. I recall that his best year he averaged around 12 points per game.

I'd love to see Davante go left on occasion. Defenses  are wisely sitting on the right hand. Definitely a knack for scoring though. I love his potential.

I thought Bilas made a great point about Otule on offense... even if he doesn't get the ball in to him, he does a great job of occupying the post and keeping his man honest.  Otule isn't going to wow anybody by ripping off a series of post moves, but if you let him turn, he's got a nice little baby hook so he has to be guarded closely.  By keeping that defender on him, he helps to open up the floor, and stalls the weak side defense for that extra split second.

Plus, as we saw last night, he does a good job running the floor.  I think it was Jae that made a couple great touch passes to him barreling toward the basket!

Gardner's fun to watch.  It's good to see him playing more and contributing.  He makes his presence felt when he's in the paint.  Congrats on a good game!

Gardner vs Hall of Providence was a fun matchup to watch.    DG could be effective against WVU's big PF.

He had a real nice spin move to the left yesterday.  He drew a foul and made the basket.

And that was #5 on Batts I believe.  Used a quicker version of the hook move than got an offensive foul called on Jae.

on ox's and 1 we should've got a "little lingerie on the deck" from Raft.  Ox certainly liked it.  he pounded his chest about 8 times.  Glad to see some of the underclassmen progressing
