Title: Bubble Watch: St. Marys - Zags WCC Championship
Post by: mugrad2006 on March 07, 2011, 08:28:21 PM
Cheer on the Gaels in this one.  Likely a one bid league regardless, but St. Mary's has a stronger resume than the Zags this year.

Steven Gray just had his eye opened up for the Zags.  That's a big loss in an even game.  Should take a bit to get him stitched up.

I'd cheer for the Zags. We played them and they have a much greater impact on our RPI. The loser will be on the bubble, regardless.

Didn't think about that, but exactly how big of an impact would a Zags win have?  I'd argue that the WCC only having one bid is a much bigger impact for MU at this point than any impact a Zags win or loss would have on our RPI.

Right. Lunardi thinks they both are in, regardless of the result tonight. With the weak bubble, I'd have to agree. Therefore, root for Gonzaga.

Man... Gonzaga loses their star player (most minutes, plus he's the PG and leading scorer) and they manage to get back on top.  When Gray comes back they should wipe the floor!

Edit:  and he's back in :)

Admittedly, not huge, but bigger than St. Mary's. Though just as important is the consideration that if Gonzaga gets in, 13 of our 14 losses (assuming we beat Providence and Seton Hall doesn't win the Big East tourney) will be to teams that are in the tournament field. I think that's a pretty nice feather in our caps. When you consider that teams like Brigham Young, North Carolina and Florida, all projected as top-3 seeds, can't even claim that, it's something to be proud of.

Little Stockton is fun to watch. Very sneaky like his dad. Great passer as you would expect. Looks like he's only about 3 foot 7 though.

Gonzaga is a good team when on. Sacre is a beast. I wouldn't be surprised to see them win a game or two in the tourney.
