I just don't get it. The other aspects of his game are pretty poor, to be honest. He HAS to shoot the ball to be an asset to the team.
The way MU does things is just really strange and doesn't make much sense at times.

I think he's being told not to settle for anything less than an open look. That should lead to a higher field goal percentage, and therefore more points. However, when the offense isn't getting open looks,then it leads to hurried shots at the end of the shot clock.
