This team STILL cannot handle pressure...
STILL cannot defend the 3...
STILL cannot beat a zone with any semblance of a half-court set...
STILL gives up huge offensive rebounds on multiple possessions...
STILL cannot shoot free throws well -- despite an offense built for them to "make" more free throws than the other team takes...
What do they do in practice all week, week after week? Draw up more Texarkana idioms?
Williams better recruit at a very high level because Xs and Os won't get us there...

Maybe you should offer some ideas to help this team out. Any constructive comments on what we need to do on the defensive end to prevent the open 3/ prevent offensive rebounds? Do you have any half court sets in mind that will beat a zone? We made 19 FTs to their 12 attempted... seems like that was an ill-advised statement.

HMMMM... sounds like some issues here.
You realize that 73.1% (19/26) is generally considered "shooting free throws well," don't you? It's above our season average, so no use complaining there. Had we handled the first half pressure better (attacking the middle instead of the sidelines we were being funneled to) and shot our season average from 3 (5/15 instead of 3/15) we're talking a 4-7 point "gutsy, hard-fought win" when really we just made the shots we normally do.
Let's get real. What did we shoot from 3? 30% or so? A couple more of those 3's fall and we win. We just were not shooting well and had trouble attacking the glass for the first 10 minutes of the second half.
We handled the pressure okay in the second half. Poorly in the first half, and JC needs to do a better job in particular.
As for breaking down zones. I'd take this team over most in the country - and Buzz's teams against the zones have done fairly well.
Like I said, shoot decent from 3, have a couple more fall, we win and this is not a discussion. And free throw shooting has been fine. A bit streaky game by game, but over all we are shooting them well in the big east.

Seriously? Of course if we shoot decent from the three we might have won. Every loss comes with the "if only" nonsense. Well ,the fact is we did not shoot well and we lost. I could care less how close we played, if only we get a call, if only the shots would fall etc. How about there is a reason all those things happen. Maybe we just are not that good. Who knows, but we have 12 losses so thats quite a few "if only's".
Does the selection committee consider just wins and losses or "almost wins"? I ask because we are undefeated if you count the "almost wins" as wins. But, I suspect that they will still see us as a 12 loss team right now. If we lose to SH, they'll be looking at a 14 loss team after the BE tourny. Any way you look at it, that's a lot of losses - even for an 11th place team in the BE. We need a road win at SH or a deep run in the BE tourny to be dancin' this year.
Seriously, if this was most other years (without the "soft bubble") we'd be planning for a first round home game in the NIT already.
Too many losses regardless of whether they are "almost wins"!
One game left - at least I'll be at that game in Newark. And I'll remember to wear my lucky shirt too that I forgot to put on yesterday. I wore for the first time this season for Syracuse and the three games won games before last night. Why'd I have to jinx last night?!

And if we win, you get Stud of the Game.

Thanks 79Warrior, I didn't realize that :o
My point was in part, that I have no problem with out zone offense, as it is a lot better than most teams I watch and a lot better than before Crean came here... SO don't harp on that because we lost THIS game because we didn't shoot well. All teams have games where they shoot poorly. We had one last night. It doesn't mean our zone offense is problematic. It just means we didn't shoot well for THIS game. SO IF we hit a few more, no one questions the zone offense and we win. I have been very, very pleased with our Zone offense under Buzz, but there will be games against zones where we shoot poorly, but don't fault the offense... I say it is just one of those games.
Free throw shooting: We shoot fine. Some games better than others. REally not an issue this year and if we have a poor free thow shooting game, it gets brought up here that we cannot shoot free throws. Makes little sense to me. Some games players and teams will shhot them better than others. So let's not make an issue of it over the course of one or two games
Get it?

This team STILL cannot handle pressure... Was a big problem in the first half. Not so bad in the second. First half lapse may have cost us the game
STILL cannot defend the 3... We are not great, but we are not bad either. We played some zone last night against a normally poor shooting team. Good move. They hit some.
STILL cannot beat a zone with any semblance of a half-court set... Wrong. We had problems shooting last night. out zone offense is actually pretty good for the most part, this year, and better than most teams I watch
STILL gives up huge offensive rebounds on multiple possessions... Yes, who doesn't. do you watch other college games?
STILL cannot shoot free throws well -- despite an offense built for them to "make" more free throws than the other team takes... Wrong. We are a decent free throw shooting team. We have done fine in the big east. Just a little streaky as a team
