I know he won it this year.
He also has a chance to win it again in the next 2 seasons.
Has there ever been a guard that has won it 3 times? I'm guessing Ewing and some other big men have done it... but I can't think of many guards who could have.
Anybody know and/or know where to find out?
If he would be the first to do it, that would be a pretty cool accomplishment.
Iverson won it twice I know.
While I think this is getting ahead of ourselves a little bit... :D

The fact that a player from Georgetown won it 11 times in 16 years is absurd.

I see what you're saying, but we
are talking about Ewing, Mourning, Mutombo and Iverson. Between the four of them they have 6 NBA Defensive Player of the Year awards (out of 7 between 1994 and 2001) (Mutombo 4; Mourning 2); 11 First or Second All-Defensive Team awards (Mutombo 6; Mourning 2; Ewing 3); 28 All-Star appearances (Ewing 9; Mutombo 8; Iverson 7; Mourning 4) and 1 MVP award (Iverson). I don't know who they were competing against for the honor in the Big East, but these are some pretty accomplished players we're talking about here.
What happened to this guy?

This is fantastic. Thanks.
Obviously I'm getting ahead of myself because any number of things could happen next year that might affect Jerel getting Defensive POY, but with some of the talent coming in (Mbakwe for shot blocking and Acker for another good guard), I think Jerel might actually be more dangerous next year.
He will be able to go all out all game and gamble a little more if/when Ooze and Mbawke are in the game at the same time.
I would not be shocked to see him win it 3 times. He has a real shot at it. The guy is a game changer, that's for sure.
