Title: Refs, BC security
Post by: Buzz's Tin on March 02, 2011, 09:48:52 PM
How about the missed goaltending call when Vander shot it down the stretch? Clearly goaltending. The refs were horrible all game. Also, one ref told a BC security guard on me which eventually led to me getting booted. Horrible, horrible stadium management. What was I doing may you ask? Yelling at the ref.

Yeah, that officiating crew sucked, but still not reason we lost game. MU just failed to do the little things as usual and it cost them.

I was watching on TV and at first thought it was goaltending, but when they showed a replay, he got it right before the ball hit the backboard, at least in my opinion. It was the right cal. Now some of the blocks they called and other fouls under the basket, I agree they didn't help us any. Our early turnovers against the press and giving up offensive rebounds is what lost us the game though.

The officiating was fine.  The worst call was the missed travel underneath the hoop.  The guy took two steps, slipped, gathered himself and went up.  It was very clear.

One person for MU, other than Jimmy B, doing what needed to be done and you got tossed.  What a fitting commentary on the game!

Were you the guy giving the "suck it" sign to the ref repeatedly at the time out.  I didn't get the feeling that ref liked you.

The travel missed call about midway through the 2nd half was horrible and after that a "block" was called on MU on the baseline which I thought was a 100% no call or maybe a charge but in no way was that a blocking foul... debatable on the goal-tending call but after the fact I'm pretty surprised zero of those calls went our way. I don't think we played well enough to deserve a win but I really felt like those refs had a bad game. I guess it happens.

You got kicked out of a college basketball game?  As in escorted from out of the building?  That takes some effort.

Yes. That guy sucked. And Chicos, yes. Not proud of it, but darn. So frustrating.

Did they take you into their little "brig" at the BC by the loading dock?  Or did you get taken out through a regular exit?

Yeah, that takes some Jonathan Xavier size effort.

Don't know what you're talking about Chicos regarding the "brig" but it was through a regular exit. Drinking ticket coming my way. Awesome.

Drinking ticket?  Like civil punishment?  Now that's too much.  There are some good layers on scoop (and some bad pretend ones...)

There's a principal involved here.  I say that you claim necessity as a defense, and don't back down an inch.  With a judge whose a Marquette law grad, you should be fine.  With a judge with a Wisconsin law degree, maybe not so much.

Back in the day they had this little holding area in security by the loading docks of the BC.  Supposedly this is where they would hold someone that they had detained...when we ran that NCAA Tournaments there in 1992, 1995 and 1999, that area was part of the security quarters for such an incident that would require someone actually be held until authorities arrived.  We affectionately called it the BC Brig.  I had never seen or heard of it actually being used which is why I asked the question.  Sorry about the ticket.

Ah, gotcha. Any idea what a "drinking" ticket costs in Wisconsin?

When I got mine 7 years ago it was $120. Not sure what it costs now. They'll probably make you go to alcohol counseling as well.

And yet the referee will not have to go to remedial referring school.  Ah, the injustice!

Chief, you're fortunate that you don't attend BYU or expulsion would be the punishment. Gettin' kicked out for makin' bacon might be worth it if the broad was hot, but not for tippin' one's elbows.

I saw the dark haired ref go over the a BC security guy in the southwest corner (diagonal from student section) during a timeout.  I was wondering if someone was getting booted.

Unfortunately Burr or Higgins weren't working the game.  They would have been too busy preening for the cameras to notice you.
