I give you two options here since it seems unlikely that a team can win both the BE Tourney and the NCAA Tournament.
Would you rather:
Win the BE tournament, get a good seed and get bounced in the first or second round of the big dance. This seems to be the norm.
Or get to the second week of the tournament, and get knocked out of the big east after one win.
I tend to think that a Big East title would be better, since that is something that is pretty amazing. We would have to win 5 in 5 and that is an impressive feat. Not to mention any title no matter when it is would be great to hang from the rafters of the BC.
According to the General this weekend, it will be harder to win the BEast tournament than the NCAA tournament.
Winning the Big East tournament would be only slightly less impressive than a Final Four run. It would be an enormous accomplishment and...dare I say...banner worthy. Put me down for winning the BET and getting bounced early, although either one would be nice.
no one remembers the Big East tournament. Everyone remembers the Final Four. NCAA tourney success is a no brainer to me.
For the sake of national profile and recruiting, NCAA. Personally, I'd take the BE Tournament. Just as long as I'm in NYC for it.
Beat Cincy is what really counts

You said it.
I'd take the NCAA tourney success any day, although winning the big east tournament would be an impressive feat, teams are remembered for their success in the NCAA tournament, not their conference tournament

Right.
If were gona win a game in the BET then I would probably take that with a sweet 16 or greater run. Id like to see atleast 2 BET games though.
Normally a BET title would be nice but I can stand the heartbreak of losing in the 2nd round(or even 1st) again. Need that second weekend.
Here's a list of BET Champs since 2000, with how they've done in the NCAA Tournament. Based on this, I like winning two games and resting up.
2000 St. John's #2 seed, Second Round
2001 Boston College #3 seed, Second Round
2002 Connecticut #2 seed, Elite 8
2003 Pittsburgh #2 seed, Sweet 16
2004 Connecticut #2 seed, National Champions
2005 Syracuse #4 seed, First Round
2006 Syracuse #5 seed, First Round
2007 Georgetown #2 seed, Final Four
2008 Pittsburgh #4 seed, Second Round
2009 Louisville #1 seed, Elite 8
2010 West Virginia #2 seed, Final Four
2nd weekend of the tourney, no question.

That is another stupid statement made by announcers. 1 out of 16 teams have to win it. 1 out of 68 have to win the NCAA tournament. It is in the same catagory as McGuire saying a turnover is 4 points. the two points you did get and the two they got. makes no sense at all. The score is 20-20 and you turn the ball over and it is now 20-22, but you have the ball again. It is two points no matter what. But what the heck it sure sounds smart when annoucers say these things.

But instead of being up 2, you're now down 2.
2 - (-2) = 4.
If you're saying that the end result is...
Big East Tourney title & NCAA Second Round
or
Big East Tourney opening loss & NCAA Sweet 16
I would take the tourney title every time. Hang a banner in the rafters. I'd love to see the Sweet 16, but it's not an end-goal. I think that there are really four end-goals worth having. Conference regular season title, Conference tournament title, Final Four, National Championship. Sweet 16 is great, but it's not an ultimate goal. And if it is, then the program needs a severe shift in leadership.
There were team we had in the past that I thought would make a deep tournament run, but I am not sure about this team. I want a deep run, and think that if we get a good draw that could happen, but I never hold my breath for a draw.
i would be happy with either?
My level would be Final Four. I would take a BE Tourney Title over everything in the NCAA through the elite 8. But I would prefer being in the Final Four over winning the BET.

We've made 2 sweet 16s in the past 30+ years. I think that is a good goal for us right now.
As for the thread topic, I'd take a Big East Tournament title over any NCAA tournament result less than a good showing in the Elite 8 round.

I'd get more value out of this. Part of the joy of making it the second weekend is that there is almost an entire week left before the games start up again. The anticipation is great. Plus, you are part of only 16 teams. There are a ton of articles and analysis and attention focused on the team.
BE CHAMPIONSHIP!
Somebody make a poll
1) National Championship
2) Championship Game
3) Final Four
4) Elite Eight
5) Big East Tournament Champion
6) Sweet 16
Though I do think BET Champion is banner worthy while elite eight is not.

I agree with this ranking 100 percent.
Nobody remembers who was in the Sweet 16...
Only Pittsburgh hangs Elite 8 banners. If they hang enough of them people might think they made a Final Four.
