Title: New recruit on the radar for 2012
Post by: Dawson Rental on February 25, 2011, 06:59:41 PM
According to ESPN, Marquette is now recruiting Abdel Nader a 6'7" 180 lb forward from Niles North High School in Skokie, Illinois.  His high school coach describes him thusly:

"The kid can flat out score the basketball," Niles North coach Glenn Olson said. "There's no doubt about that. You got a 6-7 kid who can shoot it, can put it on the deck. He has a nice mid-range game. He's long and athletic. The sky's the limit potential wise."

He was listed as a senior this year, but has just been reclassified to the 2012 class.  In the fall he committed verbally to New Mexico over Baylor.  Evidently, he knew that graduating this year wasn't a sure thing and kept his options open.  He just reopened his recruiting after he was reclassified.  This year as of the end of January, he was averaging 24.2 points and 8.5 rebounds in the Central Suburban League which is in Chicago's north suburbs.

Here's another quote from a Chicago Tribune story from January:
Glenbrook North coach Dave Weber invoked the name of his former star, Jon Scheyer, to describe Niles North's Abdel Nader after Nader scored 49 points, including 23 in the fourth quarter, against his team Dec. 7.

Ooh, ah.

A story about the Central Suburban League championship game on Wednesday follows.

Niles North was a different team the minute Abdel Nader stepped in its hallways, but some of the Vikings' biggest victories have come without the benefit of a great game from their star.

The Central Suburban League championship game Wednesday was not another example of that.

Nader had 32 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks as Niles North captured its first overall conference title with a 62-55 victory over South Division champion Evanston.

Niles North (20-6) reached 20 wins for just the third time since opening in 1964.

"I knew this was a leadership game and I had to lead my team," Nader said. "I'm getting better at picking and choosing when to score. I knew when to score and when to pass.

"We lost to them early in the season (68-62 on Dec. 3), so this shows how much better we've gotten."

Nader scored 11 of his team's first 15 fourth-quarter points and seemed to make every key play on both ends of the floor.
The 6-foot-6 senior's 3-pointer while getting knocked on his back with 2 minutes, 59 seconds remaining broke a 46-46 tie, and he drew the defense 20 seconds later before a kick-out pass to Malachi Nix (11 points) resulted in another 3 and a 52-46 lead.

Clarke Rosenberg (18 points) brought Evanston (18-10) three, but Nader responded with a left-handed scoop off of a spin move to extend the lead to five at the 1:43 mark.

"It's the old adage about big-time players in big-time game, and he certainly epitomized that," Niles North coach Glenn Olson said. "I'm very pleased with the control he had. He had guys all over him, and he continued to stay in control."

Player of the game: Abdel Nader, Niles North, 32 points, 10 rebounds, 6 blocks, 3 assists.

Well.... to get to the hanging question from the previous thread, I don't see Nader going the prep school route.  His high school coach changed jobs after his sophomore year from Maine East to Niles North and Nader followed him there, so its likely that the two have a strong connection.  Then again, sticking around for another year after your class graduates can kinda suck.

Stay calm, everyone.  After all, this is the Central Suburban League we're talking about - and Niles North, for Pete's sake.  Trust me, I coached in that league for years.

Obviously, he's being recruited to challenge JP in practice.

Ya know, sometimes teal shouldn't be needed.

Sounds like MU is going to be Syracuse West...long kids who can run the floor and shoot the trey. All we need is dominant big men and a jitterbug of a PG.

Is the same league that produced Jon Scheyer?
