Title: SAD REALITY...
Post by: Buzz's Tin on February 20, 2011, 04:03:28 AM
Vander Blue is horrible (so far this year) and is essentially useless to the team this year lol....

If you try and argue against that statement I'd love to hear your argument.........

I love every player on our team, but I'm just stating that fact because it's so frustrating to watch him play.

He will be good, but this year is a lost damn cause.

Hey, thanks for stopping by.  I needed a good dose of negativity and derp after our win tonight.  Pretty damn good nomorebuycks impression, and only after only 5 posts!

Also, "LOL" is completely unwarranted in this context. Why is it funny that our first five-star recruit in a quarter century is severely underperforming? Anyway, he is a freshman so I'm hoping his learning curve is a little steeper than others when making the transition from high school to college.

I believe the last player people like you thought was a lost cause THIS SEASON was Outle about five games ago.  And before him it was Junior at the start of BE play.  And before him it was Crowder at the start of the season (do I need to remind everyone that Ewill start the first two games this season and all the brilliant posters here thought he would be our 4 while Crowder was a wasted schollie this year).   Shall we make it 0 for 4?

That Vander is struggling is a statement of the obvious.  And it is obvious that his confidence is as low as it can go.  What he needs is a good game to boost his confidence.  And that could start with a couple of good plays.

So, keep running him out there and hope he gets that break that turns into good game that restores his confidence.

Finally let me expand on something that Ners said is another post.  We have had what seems like millions of threads about Vander and FT shooting.  Yet Vander and FT shooting have not cost us one game this year.  So why do we keep obsessing about these things?  They have not affected the season.

Early in the season, I saw Vander and reacted that he needs to realize he's not playing in the WIAA anymore. Some of the playground moves he might have gotten away with when Madison Memorial played Mt. Horeb, Wausau West or Superior Senior don't fly here. I think he's learned that.

All of that said, Vander appears to lack confidence. It's not uncommon for a freshman to go through this -- including a freshman with the talent of Vander. Keep in mind what Al said years ago, "the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores."

Last night, I found myself rooting for Vander and Junior Junior looked great and remind me of some of the point guards Al had -- Marcus Washington and even Dean the Dream. His four points were slashing moves that SH gave him. Now, if Vander can do the same and gain his confidence, we'll be fine.

I am really pulling for Vander over the next few games.  It is so important for him to taste a little upswing of success leading into the off-season.  I can imagine the B-East season has been so incredibly frustrating for him.

I think I remember Lazar having similar frustrations his freshman year -- but it was less obvious & pronounced because of those who were playing around him.

You can say lol whenever you'd like as long as you're not using it as a replacement for a period lol

I think Vander's just trying to play too fast right now and have a positive impact. On two of the turnovers it looked like he was just going too fast to the basket and didn't have the ball fully. He just needs the game to slow down for him and I think it will. I think with a full season under his belt, he will know more of how he needs to work in the offseason. He has a ton of talent and when he puts it all together I think he will be very good.

p.s. I hope this thread can be deleted, really no point in it.

Watching him junior year at state I thought he was 10 x the player Maymon was and a tremendously ready made skilled player, it seemed he couldn't miss from long range if memory serves.

His senior year and freshman year seems like regression and he has lacked that confidence in his shot for some time now it seems.

He is having a bad freshmen year. Don't give up on Vander, he will be a star for MU.
