Do you feel any better realizing that we lost to a worthy opponent? They were worthy before this win.
I know the boo birds are going to say they were booing because our guys weren't making an effort. Is it possible that we were gassed on our third game in a week, after two on the road, and that STJ is just the better team this year?
This just proves that Jamie Dixon is not the man to lead Pitt.

Obvious troll is obvious.
Pitt outscored 11-5 down the stretch. Poor coaching on Dixon's part. Pitt lacks heart. Pitt had 16 turnovers and shot 55% from the free throw line - 10 of 18. They probably need to shoot 100 FT's minimum per day in practice.

A bunch of choking dogs that lack discipline and should be booed for their effort deficiency.
I'm not gonna say MU's performance the other night was in any way good, but I think it is extremely fair to say that SJU is one of the best teams in the Big East right now, and Hardy is probably the best player in the league. Extremely possible, if not likely that with one exception, every team MU lost to will be ranked in the Top 25 on March 6th.
I don't think the boos were a result of losing to SJU, rather, they were directed at MU seeming to lack interest, effort, heart, etc. down the stretch (still don't condone booing though).

Definitely - but think Pitt lacks traditional players who are capable of making free throws and not having mental lapses down the stretch.

Pitt and SJU will make the NCAA Tournament...sure hope we do.
Pitt is, without question, the best team in the conference. That is why I do take some solace in that the best team:
- Missed critical free throws
- Had critical turnovers
- Despite being the best rebounding team in the country, gave up two crucial offensive rebounds in the waning minutes
- Basically gave up a layup on the final play of the game
Can happen to anyone I guess.

Unless they win the Big Ten tournament, there is no way Indiana is gonna make the NCAA.

The offensive rebounds were back breakers - and after playing solid defense and forcing a miss - to not come up with the ball was the dagger. There were a few careless turnovers under 1 minute - at which point the game was practically over. MU played hard throughout. SJU is becoming a VERY good team - playing like a Top 5 or 10 team at present.

Short of the guys sitting on the bench in street clothes and not getting on the court at all, they should not be booed on their home court. They've played a hell of a schedule and if they were tired on Tuesday, they were tired. I highly doubt they were in the huddle saying, let's just not try tonight, guys.

I agree. We probably would make the tourney if we had a few more traditional players. Considering we've played 13 games against Top 30 teams in the country - the opposition and location has nothing to do with our results thus far. Coaching and our players are to blame 100%.

That is correct...an expectation everyone in the country had, even more so when three starters were knocked out due to injuries. Meanwhile, at MU, most people had an expectation of going to the NCAA tournament and we're hanging on by a thread.
One team met expectations, I'm hoping the other team does, too. Huge game tonight. Must win, no two ways about it. Go Warriors!

By my definition of traditional, there is no question about it. We'd be a lock right now. That's because we would have salted away games with intelligent play, hitting free throws and having an answer early in the season when we couldn't hit water if we fell out of a boat.
Glad you're coming around.

I would be shocked if Seton Hall wins tonight. Their team is a mess. No question we lose this game and we are done as far as the NCAA is concerned.

Any time you want to put Buzz Williams and Mu in the same class as Tom Izzo, and MSU, I'm good with that. What's so important about other people's expectations? You should try thinking for yourself sometime.

Considering Seton Hall led Villanova with under 45 seconds left in regulation Wednesday night - not sure I'd say their team is a mess. Their can be addition by subtraction. They still have Hazell, Pope, Theodore and Robinsonn - the big transfer from Memphis.
Having said this MU must win this game tonight.

Free throws have NOT cost MU one game this year. How can a team like Pitt elevate to 4th in the country while shooting 55% from the line? Their team doesn't seem to play that intelligently either. Pitt turned the ball over 16 times against SJU - perhaps if they had someone like Scott C and his great handles and FT shooting, they would have won this game? "Intelligent play" is also a nice thing to evaluate as it is purely subjective - and the variance between what appears intelligent to armchair basketball fans is quite alarming...particularily the analysis by those who weren't even good enough to play at the Division 1, 2 or 5A, 4A level high school ball.

I do all the time and people get all pissy here about it when I do, for not following the vaunted mantra and code.
My expectations were 19-12 and a likely NCAA bid. I hope that's what happens. We'll see how it shakes out. Go Warriors.
I get this bad feeling MU and SJU passed each other last week, headed in different directions.

It hardly seems appropriate to try and equate our 12 point loss at home to SJU and Pitt's loss by 1 on the road. Listen, it's never a good idea to boo your team unless they're obviously dogging the effort. That's never the case with this team. However, the team is trending down at this point of the season when we should be showing improvement. We're no longer a young team. We're just not as good as a number of really good teams in the conference. Our 4-7 recent record isn't fantasy basketball.
Finally, I'd be willing to debate the overall "intelligent play" of this team. From Buycks unnecessary shot to defensive breakdowns on final possessions to halftime adjustments to failure to adapt our defense, I'd claim we play with more heart than head. So while it's outrageous to call for Buzz's firing, it is perfectly reasonable to expect improvement moving forward. Personally, I'd love to see him hire defensive and offensive specialists to assist him next year. Al had Raymonds around to supplement his style of coaching. Buzz would be wise do the same.
Maybe the people who were booing, were booing bc there looked like a lack of effort on the court. Maybe the students were booing bc most of them knew the night before, the team was out tying one on, less than 24 hours before the biggest run of the season. Who knows why people boo.... However, being a student athlete, you should be prepared to hear that noise wheather you're at home on the road. It happens deal with it.
P.S. I have no problem with athletes going out and enjoying college life, its what makes college fun.
This actualy makes me feel better. Still am wondering how this team has 9 losses, including their bad losses. On a side note, I realize they have a good recruiting class coming in but how good will SJU bd next year with 9 seniors leaving. We know how valuable experience can be.

People didn't boo because they lost. They booed because there was a discernible lack of desperation down the stretch in an absolute must win situation. A complete 180 degrees from what WVU put out on the court today -- pure heart, heave, and hustle.
And why in the world would the team suddenly be "gassed" during the St. John's game? They had a five day break, played South Florida on a Wednesday, had a three day break, then played one half against Georgetown on Sunday and were in their own beds Sunday night.
Certainly seemed to do fine earlier in the season when they had road games on a Wednesday and Saturday before playing at home on a Monday.

RE: "absolute must win": certainly more downside to losing than upside to winning that game, but even after having lost it, most still have us in the Dance.
3 games in a week, with two on the road, early in the season is different than 3 games in a week, with two on the road, 3/4 of the way through the season. I'd venture a guess the guys are a little more tired now than they were 6 weeks ago.
I flat out said in my original post that I know the boo birds weren't booing at the loss.
I'm not interested in a pissing match over how much effort the team did or did not display on Tuesday night. I just don't think the fans should boo their team on the home court at all, let alone when we're losing to a decent team.
St. Johns was playing their 2nd consecutive road game and came into the contest with the same amount of rest that we had.
Great posts DaCoach and Avalanche -I agree with your points regarding comparing SJU/MU vs. today's Pitt game as well as possible explanations for the booing or the notion that MU players were tired.
Please stop the sarcastic posts about traditional players, coaching, free throws, timeouts etc... it is beyond tiresome.
Yes, MU has played a tough conference schedule but so do all the other teams in the Big East.
The bubble is soft this year but sooner or later we need stop making excuses and actually beat someone.
This is a must win as we cannot afford to lose another home game. Let's get it done!
