Question:
Five times this year Steve Lavin has made an opposing coach of a team projected to be in the NCAA look bad with a double digit drubbing. Which of these St. John's victims do you believe is a bad coach by virtue of the drubbing they took vs. St. John's?
Option 1: Mike Brey (ND lost 72-54)
votes: 1
Option 2: Mike Krzyzewski (Duke lost 93-78)
votes: 5
Option 3: Jim Calhoun (UConn lost 89-72)
votes: 0
Option 4: Buzz Williams (MU lost 80-68)
votes: 5
Option 5: Bob Huggins (WVU lost 81-71)
votes: 1
Option 6: None, they are all good coaches so give Steve Lavin and SJU credit
votes: 35
I know they are inconsistent, but that press Lavin has set up looked suffocating. I even stopped making fun of my Duke friends for the drubbing they took. No question he outcoached Buzz ... and Calhoun, Coach K, Huggy Bear and Brey, so what do you think?
Crean.
He left Buzz high and dry.
I think Coach K was finally exposed as a fraud.
I don't even think they are inconsistent, took them a while to gel with new coach and now you could argue they are a top tier big east team. I think the pitt matchup will be a good one.
Bama, do you have a staff of people working on how to spin MU's losses in a positive light, 24/7?
MU should hire you!

+1
I think that Lavin really proved that Coach K's Dukies are highly overrated and probably don't deserve to be in the Big Dance. Their best win is at home over a UNC team that has slumped in recent years, and they barely escaped that one. Away from Cameron, all they've done is beaten two teams in Maryland and Marquette that are both sitting squarely on the bubble, and a K-State team that just got on the bubble because they knocked off another unproven road team in Kansas. What else does Duke have to show on their resume? Beating Michigan State? Butler? Yeah...those are looking like real hard-fought wins now. Both of those teams may well miss out on the tournament completely. Duke really hasn't done anything, and the showing at St. John's was just the latest in a long list of unimpressive performances by the overrated Blue Devils this year. They'll be lucky to get into the tourney considering their spotty road play and unimpressive list of opponents.

Hey, if you think they'd pay me for this I'll give them a call :-) I actually hit them pretty hard on the SJU performance equating them to Elon that night, but I did disagree on the subsequent strands that the game confirmed Buzz was a bad coach, or even the worse coach in the league are completely unfounded. For me the report card is:
Recruiting: A-
Offense: A-
Defense: D

Bama, don't you know criticism around here is childish shots at Buzz and individual players.

Even being a little slow I am catching on!
Recruiting - not sure an A-
Recruiting JUCO - A+ with the players he has landed and contributing to the team
Recruiting High schoolers - TBD as:
- 2 recruits never made it to enrollment at MU
- 2 recruits transferred Mid-year
- 2 highly rated recruits have significantly limited playing time- (Williams and Jones)
- 2 highly rated recruits have severe offensive limitations (Cadougan and Blue)
I say TBD (not negative yet) as it is early (Soph and Freshman years for these players)...

Fair enough - clearly he is evaluating JUCO talent very well (got Crowder early before his stock really rose, Butler not recruited at all, etc.), but I can see the jury being out on whether or not he is evaluating high schoolers nearly as well (Junior seemed really on the rise then, Williams was considered a big recruit, etc.)
