Who else is going to play PG. Buycks offense has disappeared and with his decline has come the teams. Disagree all you want but look at his shooting and turnover numbers in maybe the last 5. Atrocious. Cadougan had been looking solid, had been showing promise but then alas against a nice defense and athletic team he looked awful. 18 turnovers tonight and 11 by DJO Cadougan and Buycks. Bring in D-Will
By the way, where are all the Buycks lovers from a month or so ago?
And where is the guy that said that he had a shot at the NBA earlier this year?
Those people all saw their shadow and went underground.
He has really been the most frustrating player on the team lately, and the attempts to break a press tonight were just awful. The guards were picking up their dribble well behind half court...I was disgusted
Disgusted is such a good word. The guard play was really poor. Several times we just dribbled right into the lap of the defender, steal. I have been championing Blue lately, but he was not good tonight. I realize we have ups and downs, but I was surprised that certain players were on the court at the same time tonight. I think Buycks has to come off the bench. I know, who starts? I'd go with Junior and see what happens. Tough one.

I never said Buycks would make the NBA; however, I thought he could play point for this team. I agree he has had some bad games and more importantly lost confidence in his game. I think the turning point in the game tonight came when St. Johns really tightened their zone and decided not to allow the internal passing that made us so effective against their zone. That was the time when we needed guys to step up and make the outside shots. Instead, we tried to force it into a really compacted zone. Buycks took one 3 and made all free throws; however, clearly not enough, and I know you can point to a lot of negatives.
I agree with you he is not good enough against the press, which I did not think would be the case, and he forces passes. However, Buycks, Blue, and Cadougan all have no confidence in their shooting. Butler doesn't shoot from outside from very often. We are left trying to jam the ball in against packed in defenses. Seems to leave you open to turnovers because of a small margin for error.
I give you incredible credit for shorting guys on MU.

Championing Blue lately? Why? How? I've never seen a player as highly rated as him, look as out of place and foolish. He looks like a walk oon out there.

Buzz has destroyed his jump shot.

I'm not going to bag on the kid, he busts his butt. Unfortunately, we simply don't have quality point guards and he was forced to play out of position. We were caught without quality point guards in 2005 and it burned us with lack of depth. Can never have enough of them.
IMO Buzz is going to have to rethink his recruiting philosophy with all these interchangables...he needs some traditional players (some guys that can SHOOT the ball from the arc and some traditional PG types that can set guys up, keep defenses honest with a few outside shots and are great basketball IQ guys). It's tough forcing a 2G into a PG role. I feel bad for DB, think he brings a ton of effort and athleticism but has to play a position he's just not cut out to do consistently.
Someone thought Buycks could make the NBA?! I don't know that he could play in the WNBA.
As conference play has gone on the only player that has looked mildly comfortable in his jump shot has been jimmy. Buycks looks really timid to ever shoot a three now, maybe its time for buzz to loosen up a little bit on the guys for a week or so?
Lots and lots of bad passes. I think some players have hit their talent ceiling. I don't see big changes for the rest of the season. Buzz is forced to play these guys the rest of the year and I anticipate not seeing much change in results. I hope I am wrong and we can improve, but it appears time is running out. Keep the core of the returning team positive for next season. Don't let them get an acute losing attitute. DJO and Crowder will be the heart with Davante and Otule important. Hopefully Junior and Vander will focus on improving their weaknesses in the offseason and we have some pleasant surprises with new players.

Yes, I think this will be the key. It will be nice to have a freshman or two that can contribute more consistently, however, as everyone knows, freshmen and consistency, do not go hand-in-hand.

I also wonder where are your pro Cadougan posts Willie. All we heard from you for about a month was how the team clicked on offense with Cadougan in the game. Where are those posts Willie?
OK, here goes: I will take Cadougan at point over Buycks any day.
I think we're better when Buycks is a little more selfish and not looking to be a prototypical PG. While he is the de facto PG, but he should play to his game more. You can live with his turnovers more when he is getting to the rim and scoring points. Then Junior can provide a change of pace off the bench.
We are suddenly not the solid offensive team we've been, and it's because we're developing Crean's disease of passing around the perimeter and not attacking. We need to get Otule off the low blocks on offense and spread the floor and go back to doing what we do best, which is penetrate and dish for open shots.

Glad you are still standing by it. You happen to be wrong on this year's team as Buycks is the better option. I think Cadougan is an adequate backup right now but that's about it.
I think we can both agree that we need him to be the man next year as he is really the only option for serious minutes at the point.
Like I said, I will take Cadougan over Buycks any day. We have seen the 30 minute per game experiment with Buycks--he leads the team in TO's. Those minutes should have gone to Cadougan to build his confidence for the next two years. Our season would not have been any worse.
This entire team was off again last night. Period. Team loss. No D - how can you win?
