We definitely didn't play our best in the second half but.....crappy officiating. Technical foul, charge on Jimmy at end, double foul on Devonte.
Feel free to rip me.
Free throws outweigh all of that.
Even if those calls are omitted we lose in the second half anyway
Blaming the officials is the easy thing to do. Our defense blows. Absolutely blows. According to kenpom, 15th out of 16 teams in the BE.

Not the reason we lost. What did we shoot in 2nd half, 30%?
When we cut the lead to 63-60 we made 3 straight very poor decisions.
So many defensive lapses.
I agree. We missed our free throws and played crappy D in the last 10 minutes.
I don't think the officials should get a break because of that.
So many fundamental things wrong with our team that shouldn't be at this point. Some pretty good talent on the team too.
Buzz has got three ?? years left on his contract, looks like some regression has kicked in.
Buzz certainly has proven to be an average at-best bench coach. Outside of the whole "we really hustle" jibe, I don't see anything that shows that he is anything special.
don't forget the clock malfunction in the first half...the line changes were burning out the hoyas.
how long was that stoppage, anyway?
when was the last time you saw a coach get told to get off the floor...ridiculous.
Buzz was on the f*cking floor! He's lucky he didn't pick up a technical there. Can't blame the refs for telling a coach to get in the coaching box. If anything, the ref did us a break by allowing us to reset our defense.

+1. Buzz needs to stay in the box. He gets away with it a lot.
I'm fine with the warning to Buzz. It's the in game calls that I have a problem with.
Refs were terrible but were not the reason we lost. It was a tale of two halves and once again, we couln't put together 40 minutes of good basketball.

WTF? We lost because our defense absolutely blows? We just held Georgetown to 69 points (67 not counting the 2 the official literally gave them on that "worst I've EVER seen" technical). We held them below their their normal FG% and were even with them on the boards. They couldn't miss a free throw (16-18) but you can't blame that on bad defense. On the other hand, we shot 38% from the floor and 14% from 3 and missed 9 free throws. We all know where we "rank" in the Big East on defense, but what does that have to do with today? Poor shooting and offensive execution and playing a better team on the road is why we lost. And whether you like it or not, horrible officiating contributed.

Good numbers.
We just played bad defense and bad offense at the same time. Killed us.
Yes, the Coach's Box call was the right call, but it just showed the ridiculousness of the whole game. Honestly, with a few minutes left of a close game and the ref was mostly focused on where Buzz was standing, and this was the first time he said something about it. This rule is never enforced. They made it a big deal when they stressed it in I believe 2007, and I honestly don't think I've seen it even mentioned in the last two years, much less a game stopped for it. Also, the fact it came from the same ref that called a T on DJO for saying "Count it." Are you kidding me? People (many on our team) say "And 1" after layups with contact, but they call this one? I'm sure that no words were exchanged at any point during the rest of the game that came even close to that. Also, how is that not a Technical on the guy that slapped the backboard? If they are going to go to the letter of the law on the Coach's Box and DJO, why not on that play?
As far as free throws, you do realize we would have had to hit all 27 of our free throws to tie, right?
We were 18 of 27, which is average.
The lack of passing was our problem. We had 5 assists to 13 for gtown.
Both teams had 11 turnovers, which we had to win big since we are 1st in turnover margin and gtown is 15 (in conference).
Gtown has cut turnovers way down during this 8 game winning streak and they handled our press pretty easily.
They took away our passing lanes to make our offense basically djo going one-on-one, which is fineunless he has no options once gardner fouled out.

no, we had the GT guy trapped in the corner with the halfcourt line, and stopping play bailed them out.

Georgia Tech?
Aren't we also forgetting we played G'Town while their best player was in the locker room for awhile? Then, upon his return he couldn't hit an outside shot to save his life. In other words, we had a few breaks as well but didn't capitalize.

georgetown. GT. I know they like GU but unnatural carnal knowledge em.
Georgia tech has enough issues on their own. ;D

haha i know, i was just messing with you.
These have no bearing on the outcome of the game, but I am curious if anyone else "questioned" these calls:
1- About 10:30 left in the game, O'Tule misses a short shot, they rebound, against pressure one of their players who had crossed into the front court was doubled and passed to his teammate who looked like he was in the back court. No over and back.
2- Late in the game, Buycks comes down with the ball on the right side, passes under the bucket to a teammate, it looked to me like GU deflected it out of bounds and it was given to them. Announcers said something about a behind the back pass by Buycks, but I must have missed that.
3 - On the over and back call where Cadougan picked it up in the back court - I missed the replay - I thought they deflected the initial pass causing it to go in the back court - wrong?

I agree with you on Numbers 1 and 3, but on Number 2 I think Buycks passed it to Jimmy and it went off Jimmy's hand.

It was deflected which is why Jimmy could not handle it. Last off Jimmy

Pretty sure that was a legit over-and-back. Tough to tell on the replay, but it looked to me like it was an errant pass that went off Junior's hand. I was more irked with the earlier over-and-back call where the ball clearly never went into the backcourt but was whistled anyway.

It may or may not have been touched by Junior first, but the official that made the call was our buddy, who was blocked by the georgetown guy (the GT guy was between our buddy and junior. no way he was in position to make that call.

Tale of two halves. We let them shoot 50% in the second half on 12 of 24. They were 11 of 30 in the first half.

Defense was pretty good today.
Only allowed 1.02 ppp for the entire game. Fairly consistent across both halves. 1.00 and 1.04, respectively
Killer was scoring 0.67 ppp in the 2H vs 1.18 ppp in the 1H. ballgame. 24% turnover rate, 11% OR%, and 34% on eFG%.
PS - we totally crushed FTR at 77% in the 2H. Anyone else care to dispute that FTR is insignificant?

I thought he coached a brilliant first half. That was one of the best halfs of basketball...with a ton of innovative subsitutions for match up advantages...that MU has put together.
The second half plan was a head-scratcher.

Was it really surprising though? It's nothing new with this year's group. Every new half is a new adventure, and no two are the same.
Oh, and the refs were awful today. The cherry on top being the worst technical foul call in the history of basketball.
And it did affect our team because one of our best players for today fouled out with 7 1/2 minutes left to play.
