Title: The Louisville game still ticks me off...
Post by: ErickJD08 on February 13, 2011, 06:32:53 AM
I don't know about you guys, but when I look at the Big East board, I can't help but think that we should be 7-4, in 5th place and contending for the double bye.  If we won that, we would be a lock for the tourney (barring craziness).  I think this is a must win at Georgetown if we want to avoid being a Bubble team.

Yes it was bad, but I believe the bid will come down to beating Seton Hall on the last game of BE season.  Not too optimistic about Georgetown, but if we pull that one off, it changes everything.

I understand, but in terms of making it, we'll be fine. The bubble is so soft that Butler is still on it despite 5 Horizon League losses. If we get to 10-8, we're pretty well locked in. 9-9 is still a good bet, and it wouldn't shock me if an 8-10 Big East team got in.

But you're right about that loss. Give that one back and we're looking at a double-bye. Though if we win today, we still could finish top 4. Our schedule is one of the easiest in the Big East after we get done with Georgetown.

It would shock me if a 8-10 team got in unless they made a strong run in the Big East tournament

That was a huge meltdown and totally inexcusable.

The committee will be scraping the barrel for teams. I don't think we get in at 8-10, but St. John's or Cincy might if they keep an RPI around 40. St. John's has some really high-quality wins, most notably that blowout of darling Duke. Cincy will have a gaudy record regardless, despite the low SOS. I'm not saying I'd lock anyone in, but 1-2 wins in the Big East tournament might be enough. This bubble is really soft, and the Big East is really the only murderer's row in the nation.

If we beat GU and UConn and lose the rest, I would be willing to bet we would get in the tourney at 8-10

The 'Ville and USF games offset each other.  Just the way it is.

If we beat GU and Uconn on the road we sure as hell better not lose 4 straight home games to the level of teams we play.
