She is doing the color for the Louisville/Syracuse game. She was asked if its realistic that the BE gets 11 into the tourney.
She said not as she is not sold on whether St. Johns or Cincy are tourney teams. She singled them out noting that while they have some good wins, they also had some bad losses an that hurts.
She did not mention MU at all. Could it be that having no bad losses matters, and matters more than we think? Ok, it's not banner material like Cracked Sidewalks is poking fun at on their home page (and guys that is really funny!) but no bad losses does matter to getting into the big dance. Doris Burke suggested as much.

Side note, Louisville is running Syracuse off the court. If the Orange lose, they will be 7 and 6 in the BE. Good for us as we beat them and can stay ahead of them in the standings.
edit... games getting pretty close 69-66 with 1:27
St. John's will make the dance. Their victory over Duke sealed it.

A couple guys on ESPN radio this morning were talking about how many BE teams make the field and they thought either MU or St John's get in but not both.
Doris Burke...doesn't she wear a thong?

And Cincy in without question? Then they're idiots. Of the three Cincy is the weakest and the team I expect to be on the outside looking in.
When you lose to cupcakes early in the season, big wins will negate them.
Plus, college bkb loves Steve Lavin's return.
They're in.
St. Johns is in. We need to get to 11-7 to make it. 10-8 on outside depending on who the wins are against. If we beat either UCONN or Georgetown on road, that should do it. Beating St. Johns will also help.
It would be absolutely ridiculous to St. John's and have them get in over us. I am sorry. Teams get hot and win home games. Duke was bound to lose a game. You can't lose to MU, finish behind MU in standing, and make the tourney.
That being said, the SJU v. MU game is basically a play-in game. We better take care of business. You know they think that they can beat us after the Jimmy shot last year. I bet that they have the MU game circled on their calendars. I hope our guys can match the intensity. Same goes for the Cincy game.
Totally agree it's a play-in game. If we don't beat SJU on our home court, it'll spell trouble.
St John's has a pretty tough road into the tournament as they still easily could lose 5 more games. @Cinc, @MU, Pitt, @Nova,@Seton Hall. I think they'll end up with 13 losses, 9-9 in the BE...If they lose to Cinci and MU they'll be in big trouble. Obviously they're capable of going 10-8 in the BE, but i'd wouldn't bet on it. Their game tomorrow is huge.
I think St. John's will get in because the Big East tournament is in New York. They will win at leat two Big East tournament games. They are a better team than Marquette and I will not be surprised to see them beat MU next week. Cincinnati will not make the tournament. At this point it is questionable whether Syracuse makes the touranment. They have Rutgers and DePaul at home yet, but they need to win another game besides those.

Really? A team that has 20 wins and only one bad loss (with 4 against ranked teams and 1 against MU) is questionable. They may not be a high seed but in almost all of the Bubble Watches they are in the "should be in" category.
I just highlight this because by that logic, Marquette would be a longshot to make the tourney, when in fact we are squarely in the race.

St Johns is not better than Marquette.
Completely agree, I was talking about Cuse.

Yeah--I don't like Syracuse, but they will get in, and likely a 5 seed or better. Besides, they will likely make a run in BEast tournament.

It's not insane at all. Depending on how Syracuse finishes, I bet they'll be a team where ESPN will show their tournament resume compared to a mid-major and ask you to choose which team.
They have lost 6 of their last 8, and only two top 25 wins. With their OOC schedule, they still have work to do.

They have three very winnable home games remaining along with two road games against top-15 teams. If they take care of business at home and lose those two on the road they will finish 23 and 8 and most likely still be in the top 25.
A 23-8 team from the Big East with a 10-8 conference record isn't going to make the Tournament? They beat their closest competition for a bid -- Cincinnati and St. John's -- handily.

They still have work to do then, right? They aren't lock like Pitt or ND.

They are not a lock in the sense that if they lose their last 5 games they are probably in trouble. That ain't gonna happen. They'll be in and a top 7 seed.

They're in.
Not if they don't win enough games in conference. No way they get in if they go 8-10, and i question whether they would get in at 9-9 short of a deep run in the BET(on their home floor incidentally).

is doris on the selection committee?? they were constantly wipin up the floor around pitino...hope it was sweat ;D
Where is Cincy's bad losses she was talking about? Lost to Nova,Syracuse,ND,WVU,Pitt & SJU. I don't see a bad loss in the bunch. Cincy's problem is good wins. Best wins are Dayton,Xavier and SJU. That's not gonna cut it.
