Pros and Cons of adding Korie Lucious to the Marquette basketball team

Written by: noreply@blogger.com (muwarrior92)

A variety of sources (twitter (http://www.freep.com/article/20110204/SPORTS07/110204036/Michigan-State-s-Korie-Lucious-tweets-he-s-Iowa), USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/mensbasketball/2011-02-05-2201453709_x.htm), Detroit Free Press (http://www.freep.com/article/20110205/SPORTS07/110205010/1055/SPORTS07/Korie-Lucious-looks-Iowa-State-Marquette)) in the last week have indicated that former Michigan State Spartan and Milwaukee native, Korie Lucious, will transfer to another school after his dismissal by Tom Izzo.  The two leading candidates appear to be Iowa State University and Marquette.  Lucious visited Iowa State recently and reported to have a good time....of course has anyone ever read a post by a recruit anywhere where they said they had a terrible time?  Lucious has several "best friends" on the Iowa State team, including former Spartan Chris Allen and Milwaukee native Diante Garrett.

He is expected to visit Marquette soon, though he's certainly been around the Marquette campus many times throughout the years, including Summer pickup games with members of the UW-M and Marquette teams.  He knows the campus and Buzz Williams.

That leads us to the pressing question....is it a good idea for Marquette and Buzz Williams to take on Korie Lucious?

Let's take a look at the Pros and Cons of such a transfer.

CONS

PROS

An interesting decision ahead for both the young man and a young coach at Marquette.

Just a little English 101 hint - When one says "let's look at the pros and cons" of something/someone pros (1st mentioned) are also first listed.

On substance, I'd be surprised if Buzz were to take Lucious. Unless he's sure that someone is leaving, I can't see tying up 2 year's worth of scholarship for 1 year on the court. My guess is Buzz wants to be helpful, but not to the point of offering. Guess we'll know soon.

...and for pity's sake, please remember to set off those introductory adverbial clauses with commas.  Thank you.

Cons far outweigh the pros---please Buzz, if you read stuff here....just say no!

After thinking about this more, the 2 for 1 part doesn't bother me as much.  That gives us one less player that needs to be worked into the rotation or that we need to worry if their unhappy about playing time for the year he sits.  People are all worked up this year about Jones, Williams and Gardner not getting enough time, and we're already short 2 roster spots with Wilson sitting and Smith gone.  With two more active players there would be even more worrying.  In return, we get a proven high level player for one year, not a project that may never pan out.

There are still plenty of reasons not to do it, but I don't think the 2 for 1 reason is that big of a deal.  We can then focus on recruiting another high level PG (like B.Koenig?) to come in the following year (2013) when D.Wilson is a Jr.
