Title: I guess we'll find out...
Post by: NavinRJohnson on March 11, 2007, 08:07:53 PM
if the BE, and MU in particular really did get screwed. We are still talking about upper half seeds for each team (OK VIllanova is a 9, but what's the difference). We aren't talking about expecting a 6 and getting a 12, or expecting a 4 and getting an 8. We are talking 1 or two lines. If the BE teams really were screwed, they all have a chance to prove it. I understand it makes for a tougher first round match-up, etc, and I understand the problem associated with the 2nd round games, having to play in NC, etc. I get that, but if we are better than an 8 seed, we should survive MSU and have an opportunity to give UNC our best shot.

Just getting to the Sweet 16 doesn't do much for me personally - what I mean by that is, at some point you have to beat the big boys. If we can manage a win in our second game, it theoretically, only gets easier from there.

theres a HUGE difference between a 6 and 8....  Here are the differences

if you are an 8, you are playing a 9 instead of being a 6 and playing an 11
if you are an 8 and win your first game... you get to play a 1 seed, not only that but a one seed placed in an area which is real close to home, for MU's instance, UNC's backyard...  a 6 and you play a 3... or 14(some 14's do win)
if you are a 6 seed, looks better for recruits than an 8 seed

I guess thats all I have... but my 2nd point, about playing a 1, is enough to be upset

Let me just say that at this point we should be focused on MSU.  However, when 33 websites project us as a 5 seed and we come in as an 8 (along with a 21 RPI and a 14 SOS)...well that's getting screwed.  The 8 seed vs 5 is huge.  Hell, the 8 vs 7 is huge because of the second round matchup.  To deny that would be to deny reality.

Let's bring on MSU.  MU has a nice opportunity in front of them so let's take advantage of it.

I understand all of that - specifically as it relates to the second round opponent. I guesss my point is, if we are that much better than an 8 seed, and that much better than MSU, as most people seem to want to argue, we should beat them rather easily. Same goes for ND, Louisville...
