Title: Steve Lavin Jr.
Post by: schubert33 on January 25, 2011, 10:28:20 PM
During his early years at UCLA Lavin had the best recruiting classes in the country, but his coaching sucked so no class ever lived up to the hype.  Buzz has good classes, but I am starting to believe he has no idea how to coach.  He should have never went small tonight.  He seems lost in half court sets out of time outs and I feel he's an anchor.  He gets way to much credit the last 2 years, now he DESERVS SOME OF THE BLAME.....

I wouldn't go that far, but our defense is atrocious.  How many times are we going to double the low post from behind to give up an uncontested dunk on the drop off pass?  We switch too much and give our opponents too many mismatches.

Buzz's bigest deficiency as a game coach continues to be that Buzz the general manager hasn't provided Buzz the coach with servicable big men to work with.

And Lavin now has Keady on his bench, a guy who can help mentor hiim in all those deficient areas. Buzz needs the same. Tonight proves it (again).

Buzz has to be the worst timeout manager I've ever seen. Two awful instances tonight. First, he waits until UConn has stretched their run to 9-0 instead of calling it when they tied the game. Way too late. Then in the final minute, he calls a timeout, Buycks hits a three, and he calls his last timeout. WTF? Didn't you tell them 8 seconds ago what to do if they scored? I mean, come on. Complete waste of a timeout. And as the ND and UL collapses show, it's not the first time he's mismanaged his TOs.

I couldn't agree more.  Buzz needs a Keady on his bench.  He needs someone to real him in when he's so obviously lost.

notice how Calhoun called a time out immed at the beginning of the 2nd half when MU made 2 3s in a row.  He didn't wait. Cured that problem inned.

BUZZ needs a coach himself.

Superb insight...spoken like a true Bail Bondsman! Should Buzz hire Tom Crean as his mentor, an elder statesman if you will? I hear The Bronzed Brazen Beast of Bloomington may be seeking other life options.

By the way, you haven't by chance seen or heard from a certain Bail Bondsman, have you Warrior?

We got the lead by going small. However, Buzz needed to revert back to big when the team got tired.
