Title: Benches
Post by: CTWarrior on January 25, 2011, 10:27:48 PM
MU Bench:  1-10 FG, 2-5 FT, 4 pts, 6 reb, 2 assists, 2 TO
UConn Bench:  6-18 FG, 6-6 F, 21 pts, 18 reb, 7 assists, 4 TO

Nothing from our benc.  No wonder we wilt at the end of these games.

Guys they're age should be able to play 40 hard minutes.  "Tired legs" is just a convenient excuse.

I agree.  They should definitely be able to sprint for 20 minutes, take a short break, then sprint for 20 more minutes.  Why do we even have more than 5 players anyway?

Sure, they are 'able to play 40 hard minutes' but they're going to be more tired (in the leg region) than someone else who has just played 25.

I really think Buzz has to roll the dice with Jones and Gardner--despite their youth and lack of D.  I agree that our teams seem to wear down at the end of games.  If those two could provide some punch off the bench, great.

Maybe he should try not working them out so hard before the game.  I haven't seen their pregame ritual, but every commentator seems to say that they run harder than any team they've seen during shootaround.  Maybe the combo of the shootaround and the extensive minutes take their toll.  I know these guys are young and in great shape, but so are the guys wearing the other teams jerseys.  It is very much possible that the other team has more juice at the end of the games because they are better rested.

Last night was the first time this year where we were noticably more tired than the other team.  Around the 12 minute mark, we looked really tired and slowed it down.
