I don't really remember it but on the post game Mac and Homer said Crowder was 15 feet away from the foul that should have been called on Jimmy Butler. Buzz said he tried asking all three officials about it but none would respond.
Is this true?
I think the call was a reach on Crowder when he was providing help defense. His second foul call was IMO the worst call off the game.
It seemed the ND guy had butler posted and I can't even recall Crowder being near the action. Almost as bad as the foul they called on Abro's missed dunk. (Which if that was his 2nd, my apologies for the repetitive post.)
Went back and looked at it... it doesn't look like he had any contact, but he definitely wasn't 15 feet away. He was sagging off his man to help with Nash in the paint and reached out, then brought his hands up to his mouth as soon as the whistle blew, like he was thinking, "please don't be on me." They showed a shot of one of the officials talking to Buzz so he wasn't totally ignored.
Yeah, he got called on the reach in on Nash. It looked like Hightower was screened out behind Butler when he made the call and probably called it based on seeing the reach by Crowder. Maybe a bad call but a dumb move by Crowder in that situation.
That game was tailor made for zone defense. The refs that night did not reward agressive defense... they called a lot of ticky tack fouls. Giving that we our one of the least fouling teams in the nation, you know it was being called tight. You have to adjust. We didn't.
I was at the game and that call was simply baffling.
Jimmy Butler and Jae Crowder don't exactly look alike. Kinda hard to confuse the two.
Can Buzz actually lodge a request for explanation with the NCAA or other authority? (not to complain, but just to get an explanation) If enough of coaches start doing this, people like Hightower may eventually get sh!tcanned as a pattern develops. BTW, does anyone know how refs are evaluated? There are always three on a crew. How come I only seem to notice Higgens, Burr and Hightower?

Because the three of them are peacocks and think people come to watch them call a game. Hightower's probably disappointed the Joyce Center scoreboard Saturday didn't read "Tonight: Ed Hightower LIVE, featuring special guests Marquette and Notre Dame."
