Title: Unbelievable
Post by: Dienerfor3 on January 22, 2011, 08:20:15 PM
I usually try to avoid blaming the refs...but that was awful. We couldn't attack the zone because if they did they couldn't get a call. In the first half, Otule went up for a dunk and was hammered..nothing. There were numerous no-calls that could not be missed and many ticky-tac fouls called for ND.. unacceptable in big games like this.

Terrible both ways.  The refs did not blow this game.

Wrong.  MU was outshot 36 to 17 from the line.  WE are more athletic across the board than ND...and we NEVER get outshot at the FT line under Buzz in terms of attempts..seriously..it has almost never happened in his entire time at MU as coach.  But this game we get outshot 2:1.

Horse crap.  We attacked the zone inside..but got no foul calls..there was almost no way for MU to win tonight given the stacked deck against it

The one in the second half really pissed me off. Otule was hammered in the face going up under the basket, no call, and then ND takes it down for a 3. Changed the flow of the game to ND's favor and they never looked back. Not to say the loss was all on the crappy reffing but it didn't help.

We will just disagree then.  We folded in the second half, again.

Yes, this was the one i meant. I thought it was the first half because it seemed so long ago.

I was not pleased by the officiating by any means but MU needs to look in the mirror on this one and and the tough teams find a way to win despite not getting the calls while on the road.

Can you provide some context as to why you feel we folded - when we couldn't buy a foul call on the offensive end...and were constantly getting whistled on the other end?

A 36-17 disparity in free throw attempts isn't an "advantage," or refereeing had nothing to do with this outcome?  I really would like to hear your reply as to why you don't feel a 18 more free throw attempts isn't significant in the outcome of this game?

Except for the otule non call.  I would say we do not go strong to the basket and force a foul call.  It is weak.. jump up and double clutch, and miss them.  Not just go strong and out determine the other player.  I see that consistently.

I'm not saying the refing was good, I just think our inability to step up on the road when we need to is totally obvious.  We seem to go into a shell.  The only 2 that seemed to be aggressive were DJO and Jae.

They went into a 2-3 zone and we all sat there with our thumbs up our A**es like we'd never seen one before.  i remember 8th grade basketball learning how to break a zone.   we were throwing lazy passes and they were recovering there was no movement at all.  Get somebody in the middle of the zone, quick passes, penetration if you do that you'll be able to find a better shot than what we were settling for.
