Title: Intentional Foul
Post by: robmufan on January 19, 2011, 09:57:51 AM
What was the intentional foul vs. Otule last night?  Higgins made a call in the low post, looked like a grab or hold, nothing out of the ordinary for the low post...then all of a sudden otule was at the line by himself...

Does anyone else have information on this? Sorry if it was already questioned in a previous post.

I believe the call was that since the defender's arm were raised above his shoulders while trying to clear out Otule, that is an intentional foul, but not a flagrant.

Someone said an elbow was thrown.  Must have been that rule where if you swing your elbows on a rebound its automatic.  I did not see it.

It was the turning point in the game.  Marquette was down 14-18 then went on a 80-46 run.

Elbow contact above the shoulders is an automatic intentional foul, even if unintentional (per Mike Kelley last night).  It's an officiating point of emphasis this year.

It was a pretty weak foul (not as weak as the back-to-back fouls on Otule).  Which is somewhat amazing since they didn't seem to be calling anything that didn't draw blood in the first half.

it was shown on replay and looked totally harmless. He raised his elbow above his shoulder. I believe it is an automatic foul this year
