Title: The MECCA or the Bradley Center
Post by: Marquette_Fan on January 11, 2011, 09:10:03 PM
To be honest I like the MECCA better. I was a student at both UWM and Marquette so I go to both teams games. As a team I like Marquette better of course but the MECCA is a more fun place to watch basketball. I think your closer to the action plus it has that old school feel to it being in the same building as all those great Marquette teams from the 70s and the Bucks teams from the 70s and early 80s.

Its too bad I was born in 1976, I missed out on the golden age of Milwaukee basketball in my opinion. For both the Bucks and Marquette that is.

What are your thoughts ?

When's the last time you were in the Mecca? Place is a complete dump and should be condemned. That said, the BC is a hockey building and has poor seating and sightlines for hoops.

I was in the MECCA in December when Cleveland St. creamed UWM. I am curious as to why it is a dump ? I think it looks great from both the outside and inside considering it was built in the 1950s.

I think the MECCA provides a more home field advantage. I think when Marquette made their run to the NIT championship game about 15 years ago they used the MECCA for their home games and that advantage helped big time.

You're right. Would be great for Des Moines or Springfield.

Maybe it's just me, but having to pee in a urinal with a slanted ceiling that makes it impossible to stand up straight ruins it for me. I know it's got that intimate thing going for it, but if I can't pee comfortably, count me out.

What would be perfect is a MECCA size atmosphere without the MECCA age.  Not going to happen.

The MECCA's lighting is pretty bad.  Everything has a yellow/orange hue to it.

The entrance and hallways make it feel like a high school.

I prefer the BC.

Des Moines deserves better, Dubuque on the other hand.

I like the MECCA. It's easy to go smoke, not far as a walk. The beer is better. The seating in better. More leg room.

The US Cellular Arena is better now than when the Bucks and MU played there. New seats and they fixed the ceiling. Two years ago they have a brand new floor at the arena. New light board signs outside.

Jumbotron? No? Ok, Bradley Center it is.

It's a 1990's jumbotron. BC just got a new scoreboard. Don't act like the BC has always had it.

The problem with the BC scoreboard is that the player names and timeout numbers are to small. The Bucks changed the names and only puts last names now. I wonder why MU doesn't do that.

I can read them just fine, with one eye.

I didn't say you can't read them. It's reads smaller than the old scoreboard.

It must be Otule who reads the board!

The scoreboard at US Cellular arena isn't even close to the one the BC had before this year.  The style is similar but the size and video quality is no where near the quality of the old BC scoreboard.

I know it doesn't work for season ticket purposes, etc. but I think it would be kind of fun if MU would host the old Milwaukee Classic in the Arena.  Bring in 3 little sisters of the poor (cause no way Wisconsin comes) and do a little holiday tourney.  Heck, we play some real soft teams the week around Christmas anyway.  I know it can't happen, but it would be fun.

So how did you answer the question?
