Just got back from the game an hour ago. What an awesome game. One of the best ever Marquette game I ever attended. To beat the #11 ranked team as an unranked team was great.
Anyway, does everyone here agree that Marquette should be in the top 25 next week ?
no
Nope.
no. We still have to beat Louisville on the road. Maybe then, but probably still no.
You need to pump the brakes a bit.
If they pound Looieville at the Chicken Coop this weekend and some other bottom 25/RV teams lose, then I would agree that MU belongs in the discussion for top 25; however, the AP voters will still disagree. A few "Wilner" votes will likely get them into the RV category, but the bottom line is that there are over a dozen teams garnering votes right now, and unless you completely obliterate two Top 10 teams in the same week, it's virtually impossible to leapfrog from no votes to Top 25 this late in the season.

Not to sound like a broken record, but...
No.
In the nicest way possible... no way.
You all are so rude. The least you can do is answer the question.

If we win at Louisville we should be in the 26-30 range IMO; but not ranked....more interested in racking up BE wins than the rankings.
Saying MU should be ranked in the top 25 next week is like saying junior cadougan can hit a jumper. More than a longshot.I think I'd rather bet on a random, uncoordinated guy to make the half courter at the next MU game.
To be fair, we will probably pick up a few votes if we beat Loserville on Saturday. Give it another week and if we manage to run it to 6-1 in the conference with another win over ND on their court and we might sneak into the top 25. However if you want to guarantee it, it would take another two victories the next week. Over UConn and Syracuse. At least they're both on home court ;D

Or Vander. But to answer the question, no way.

A win at Louisville is better than being ranked.
Forget the polls, MU is up to #31 in Pomeroy's calcs after tonight's shellacking of ND (with an 11-7 conference record). Still only gives us a 22% chance of a win at UL. If we win there, I think his calcs might just get us to top 25 - and I trust his numbers more than most of the others.....

MU jumped to #9 nationally in offense. Wow

I guess shooting 70% from 3 will help move a team a few spots.
As for the original question: NO. I do really like the way the team has looked in conference play however.
We will be close but wont get there quit yet. Just beating Louisville and then DePaul(boy I hope so) and getting to 5-1 in conference before the ND rematch would be huge. That would put us in a sweep situation of ND with really nothing to lose in a road game like that and only dropping to 5-2 in conference.
I dont care about the ranking. I want tourney quality wins.
Would be nice, especially if we can hand one to Slick Rick...but no.

... and 83rd on defense. In the last two years we finished the year ranked in the 50s on Defense. A couple of more games like yesterday and we might have a chance to up our rankings to the 50s.
Our eFG rank is 198 and our oReb% rank is 143. That is what we need to improve.
Not a sniff. But, then again, you'd be better off axing DenverMU who has the pulse of the team.
If we beat Louisville at their place, we will probably be in the "others receiving votes" catergory. 5 losses is too many for anybody besides Sparty to be ranked at this point of the season.

Agree. Give me a split of the next two road games and I'm feeling ok, a sweep and I'd start to get very excited.
Beat Louisville, have 3-4 teams ahead of us lose and maybe we squeak in.
No. Just no.
Maybe get a few votes, but you need more than one good win. That was an awesome game though!
If we beat Louisville we will recieve votes...
Just keep getting wins in the BE and everything else will fall into place. It would be nice to crack the Top 25 to get more exposure, etc...but IMO, we arent a Top 25 team.....yet!!! Keep working hard fellas!!
No, and let's not get carried away. 5 losses at this point will not give us top 25. Just get some more quality wins.

+1 - Agree 100%
IF: MU beats UL convincingly,
THEN: MU will be in the top quarter of teams receiving votes.
IF: MU simply beats UL but UL plays like Karen Cypher on a good day,
THEN: MU will tally single digit AP votes.
IF: MU has a close loss at UL and approx. half of the AP 20-25 and RV teams lose,
THEN: MU will still tally single-digit AP votes on Monday.
IF: MU beats UL on Saturday, beats DePaul next Tuesday, and ND next Saturday,
THEN: they will probably land between #17-22 in the Jan 24 poll - but will certainly crack the Top 25 regardless.
IF: Same scenario above, but a close loss to UL or ND,
THEN: Top 25 is reasonable possibility depending on how the other AP 15-25 (& RV) teams perform over the next 12 days.
In short... the soonest MU can be in the Top 25 is Jan 24th. But more importantly, they control their destiny and are already 30% of the way to the 10-8 record needed to (what should) wrap up a Dance ticket.

no. One quality win does not get you in the Top 25. Beat UL this weekend and we might have a shot.
