Title: Several Things..
Post by: NersEllenson on January 10, 2011, 08:14:13 PM
1) What are the chances Nomorebuycks decides to surface tonight?

2) Does it appear Buzz has lost this team?

3) Does this mean MU is now better than Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Georgetown, and UCONN - because we know Notre Dame has beaten all 4 of these teams - and some love to compare common opponents.

4) Can Buzz all of a sudden coach again - or does it help when your team hits shots (much the Pitt was on fire against MU), and the opposition misses a few it might normally make?

It helps when the opponent misses their first 5 wide open 3's.  Not complaining, I'll take it.

Great win.

I still don't think we played very good team D but there were a lot of good individual efforts.

The boys were motivated and extremely hot from outside while ND was extremely cold.  Every Big East win is important... let's get the next one.

Agree that there are still areas of concern with the defense...seems we just have a few brain farts on some of our double teams..somehow failing to defend the guy closest to the basket.  Personally, it seems the risk of that strategy hasn't paid off in turnover rewards.  Perhaps the team will improve, but to an extent I think we get so paranoid about not letting people in the paint..that we expose ourselves to leaving some 3 point shots wide open.  I'd rather contest a 2 in the paint, than a wide open 3.

I just think we approach defense from an individual, and not team, perspective.  I don't want to sound like a malcontent here; I am very happy with the win, I am excited by the level of talent Buzz has brought in, but watching our collective effort on D drives me nuts.  I don't care how much talent you bring in; good consistent team defense is the difference between good and great, conference champs and conference contenders, sweet sixteen and final four.

Again, great win.  I'm definitely enjoying it, but I pray that we get this team D figured out or I might break my new T.V..

Ummmmm WOW do I completely disagree about the defense tonight. We held the#9 team in the country to 57 points and completely took them out of their game. Were you there  tonight? You can't appreciate how hard the guys worked if you weren't there watching them off the ball. I watched out boys sprint back and forth chasing Hansbrough and Abromaitis all over the place the entire game, frustrating the living sh!! out of them. We held those two to 10 and 9 points I believe. As Mac said on the radio after the game, when you do that and make the other guys on their team shoot, you're going to lower their % and raise your chances to win.
I've been completely in agreement that our defense was less than stellar a lot of times this season, but NOT tonight. TONIGHT was a very solid defensive effort. Now we can all hope we find a way to do it again the next game.

Between Buycks' reemergence and the Superbar thread about the packer game, I think it's safe to say we won't see him for a while.
